Warner Bros. may not want Shia LaBeouf in the DC Comics movie universe, but some fans certainly do.

Following recent comments by the divisive actor that the studio had "vetoed" a planned reunion between himself and "Fury" director David Ayer in "Suicide Squad," a petition has been launched on Charge.org calling for LaBeouf to be cast as Red Hood in an upcoming film.

Red Hood is an identity that Jason Todd, the second Robin, assumes after his apparent death at the hands of the Joker. Robin is dead the DC Films universe, so speculation is that Red Hood could surface in a later feature.

The petition lays out the reasons some passionate fans want LaBeouf to play the role: among them, that he's "willing to go the distance" for the craft, that it would be an "opportunity for him to show the world what an amazing actor he can truly be," and that "Ben Affleck was hated by so many people" and is now revered for his Batman performance.

While there are certainly DC fans who would challenge those assertions, the petition seems to have some legs: It already has 1,780 supporters toward its goal of 2,500. There's even a Twitter hashtag, #shiaforredhood.

Perhaps LaBouf will get his shot at DC movie stardom after all?
