Fans of DC Extended Universe directors Zack Snyder and David Ayer commissioned an airplane to fly a banner reading "SnyderVerse & Ayer Cut."A video of the airplane was reposted on Twitter by Ayer, who directed 2016's Suicide Squad, on the first anniversary of the release of Zack Snyder's Justice League on HBO Max, or the first anniversary since the #ReleasetheSnyderCut movement saw its goal realized.RELATED: Justice League's Darkseid Actor Is Hopeful More Snyderverse Films Are Coming

There is currently a call from fans to #RestoreTheSnyderVerse, demanding Warner Bros. bring Syder back to helm the subsequent Justice League movies he had initially planned. Snyder has directed three DCEU films, including Man of Steel, Batman v. Superman: Dawn of Justice and Zack Snyder's Justice League, or the Snyder Cut, which was released on March 18, 2021. The director recently celebrated this anniversary on social media, commemorating it as the day "the entire world became a Justice League." As for Ayer, both the director and fans have been similarly campaigning for Warner Bros. to release the director's cut of Suicide Squad, though it has not had the same effect.

Before its release in 2016, Suicide Squad underwent multiple reshoots and cuts, with Warner Bros. demanding major changes to the film's overall tone and style. Among the changes included the removal of a romantic subplot between Will Smith's Deadshot and Margot Robbie's Harley Quinn, as well as a majority of the Joker's (Jared Leto) role. Following the success of the fan-led campaign to #ReleasetheSnyderCut, which ultimately saw the release of Snyder's version of Justice League, fans began to call for the studio to #ReleasetheAyerCut of Suicide Squad as well.

The film received a negative response from critics overall, and Ayer would later speak out against Warner Bros., saying that the version of Suicide Squad released in theaters was "not [his] movie." "I put my life into Suicide Squad," he said. "I made something amazing - My cut is [an] intricate and emotional journey with some 'bad people' who are shit on and discarded (a theme that resonates in my soul). The studio cut is not my movie."

He continued, "[My] cut is not the 10 week director's cut. It's a fully mature edit by Lee Smith standing on the [incredible] work by John Gilroy. It's all Steven Price's brilliant score, with not a single radio song in the whole thing. It has traditional character arcs, amazing performances, a solid 3rd act resolution. A handful of people have seen it. If someone says they have seen it, they haven't."

Currently, Warner Bros. has no plans to release the "Ayer Cut" of Suicide Squad.  Zack Snyder's Justice League is currently available to stream on HBO Max.
