Family Guy paid tribute to the late Carrie Fisher in Sunday's episode of the animated comedy.
Best known for her iconic role as Leia Organa in the Star Wars franchise, Fisher also played Peter Griffin's no-nonsense supervisor Angela on the Fox series. Fisher appeared in more than 20 episodes, including two that aired after her death in December 2016. But with this week's episode, Family Guy said farewell to Angela, and to Fisher.
While most of the episode focused on a competition between Peter and Brian over who will become the new mascot for Pawtucket Brewery, it also featured a surprisingly heartfelt tribute to Fisher.
“That was Angela: fearless, spontaneous, honest about herself just as much as she was about the world around her,” Peter tells the assembled crowd at a funeral – which naturally turns out to be the wrong place. But the sentiment is still there. “She had grace, courage, and an unmatched zest for life. She may be gone, but her voice will live on in DVD and Hulu Plus and tiny droid-projected messages. I may have lost a boss, but heaven has gained a princess.”
Fisher passed away at age 60 in December 2016, after suffering a heart attack on a flight from London to Los Angeles. She had already completed her role for Star Wars: The Last Jedi; unused footage from that film and from 2015's The Force Awakens will be utilized to finish her character arc in the upcoming Star Wars: Episode IX.
