Recently released concept art from The Falcon and the Winter Soldier reveals Emily VanCamp's Sharon Carter in an entirely new light. The formerly high-ranking S.H.I.E.L.D agent has found herself on the wrong side of the law, and merchandise for the upcoming series highlights her new rogue status.

Zazzle has begun selling stationery, homeware and apparel products based on the show, some of which display the official new costume of Sharon Carter. A much earlier 2019 mockup displayed Carter in tactical gear with a color palette more reminiscent of S.H.I.E.L.D uniform, contrasting navy and gray and equipped with a holster and her hair back in a braid. More recent releases more closely resembling the latest concept art displayed a head-and-shoulders shot of Carter with a bold WANTED sign stamped across her eyes, giving fans a clear picture of what Carter's new role will be in the highly-anticipated action series.

The character of Sharon Carter (AKA Agent 13) was a major player in Marvel Comics, as both an ally and love interest of Captain America. She was first introduced onscreen in The Winter Soldier when she went against her superior's direct orders and refused to launch the secret Hydra project, Project Insight. After S.H.I.E.L.D.'s fall, Sharon Carter began working at the C.I.A. Carter has consistently been more inclined to follow her own moral code rather than the law, even smuggling weapons out of the C.I.A for Captain America during the events of Civil War.

Taking place after the events of Avengers: Endgame, The Falcon and the Winter Soldier begins after Sam Wilson (Anthony Mackie) is handed the title of Captain America by Steve Rogers. VanCamp has discussed how her character has been on the run since the events of Endgame and the series will show what she's been up to in that time.

Although the series was set to debut in March 2020, filming was delayed due to the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic; it wrapped production in October. The series will be released sometime in the new year.

Directed by Kari Skogland, The Falcon and the Winter Soldier stars Anthony Mackie, Sebastian Stan, Emily VanCamp, Wyatt Russell, Noah Mills, Carl Lumbly and Daniel Brühl. The series debuts on Disney+ in 2021.
