A new promo for Marvel's The Falcon and the Winter Soldier revealed the show's official rating. The promo, which is a condensed version of The Falcon and the Winter Soldier trailer that premiered during Super Bowl LV, confirms the series has received a TV-14 rating for "language and violence." It was rumored the series had received a 16+ rating from the Dutch film and television ratings board for "violence and coarse language," which is same rating as Marvel's Netflix shows Daredevil and Jessica Jones.RELATED: Falcon and Winter Soldier Carries Black Panther's Mantle for Black Youth

Although WandaVision also has a TV-14 rating, it started out as TV-PG. This can be attributed to the show's change in tone and content from its first few episodes, which paid tribute to classic sitcoms from the 1950s through to the '70s, and the more recent ones, which have incorporated scenes from the real world outside the WandaVision reality while at the same time homaging more recent sitcoms like Malcolm in the Middle. With the exception of the Marvel Netflix series, all other Marvel Studios titles carry a 12+ rating.

Both the Super Bowl trailer and this new promo offer a sneak peek at The Falcon and the Winter Soldier's comparatively intense action, with big set pieces and what looks to a brutal fight scene involving Sharon Carter. However, the latter promo is carefully edited to avoid including any coarse language, with Sam Wilson shouting "That little girl kicked your ass!" only to cut to Bucky Barnes yelling before he can finish his sentence.

The TV-14 ratings for The Falcon and the Winter and WandaVision suggest the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) won't be shying away from relatively less family-friendly material in Phase 4. This trend will continue with the upcoming Deadpool 3, which is confirmed to be the first R-rated MCU film. It has been speculated that other Marvel properties could also get an R-rated treatment down the line, including the Blade reboot starring Mahershala Ali. The original Blade movie trilogy was similarly R-rated and was one of the more popular Marvel movie properties prior to the MCU, grossing over $400 million.

Directed by Kari Skogland, The Falcon and the Winter Soldier stars Anthony Mackie, Sebastian Stan, Emily VanCamp, Wyatt Russell, Noah Mills, Carl Lumbly and Daniel Brühl. The series premieres March 19 on Disney+.
