WARNING: The following contains spoilers for The Falcon and the Winter Soldier Episode 5, "Truth," now streaming on Disney+.

After four episodes without any end-credits scenes, The Falcon and the Winter Soldier at last delivers one with "Truth" that's chillingly evocative of the film that launched the Marvel Cinematic Universe, 2008's Iron Man.

Following his public execution of one of the Flag Smashers, John Walker (Wyatt Russell) is pursued and defeated by Sam and Bucky, who reclaim the shield. He then returns to Washington, D.C. -- not to cheers but to jeers -- where he avoids official court-martial but is nevertheless stripped of the title and authority of Captain America, and discharged from the military without rank or financial benefits. With his partner Lemar Hoskins (Clé Bennett) dead, Walker has lost everything, except for the support of his wife, Olivia (Gabrielle Byndloss).

And yet, Walker's final words to the disciplinary panel ring through to the mid-credits: "Senator, I am Captain America."

Falcon and Winter Soldier Episode 5 mid-credits

Silent except for the sound of hammer striking metal, the sequence harks back to Tony Stark (Robert Downey Jr.) forging his Mark I armor in Iron Man. It's a scene, and a sound, so ingrained in the DNA of the Marvel Cinematic Universe that the clanging was revived to play over the ends credits of Avengers: Endgame.

Opening with the sound of hammering, and a photo of Walker and Hoskins in happier times, the scene depicts the fallen Super Soldier creating a replacement shield. It's not constructed of Vibranium, and, therefore, will offer provide little defense against Sam Wilson and Bucky Barnes, let alone the Flag Smashers.

However, it is red, white and blue,. What's more, Walker appears to have soldered to it the service medal he held after the hearing, as he told his wife, "They just do not know what it takes to be Captain America, they just don't. It's not like I'm just gonna disappear."

Indeed, Walker's story isn't quite finished -- and not only because one episode of The Falcon and the Winter Soldier remains. Marvel Comics fans know that, following his stint as Captain America, Walker became the U.S. Agent. But, of course, it appears his journey in the MCU will be far more tragic.

Directed by Kari Skogland, The Falcon and the Winter Soldier stars Anthony Mackie, Sebastian Stan, Emily VanCamp, Wyatt Russell, Noah Mills, Carl Lumbly and Daniel Brühl. A new episode debuts each Friday on Disney+.
