The Falcon and the Winter Soldier showrunner Malcolm Spellman has ambitions of rebooting a Marvel Television superhero in the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

"My favorite character, the character I would most love to do next, would be Deathlok." Deathlok," Spellman told Heroic Hollywood. "But it would have to be right." Upon being reminded that Deathlok had appeared in prior Marvel Television programs, Spellman remarked, "Yeah. Yeah. Not that Deathlok. A different Deathlok."

Created by Rich Buckler and Doug Moench, the first incarnation of Deathlok -- Luther Manning -- debuted in 1974's Astonishing Tales #25. Various incarnations of the character subsequently appeared in the comics over the years, while also making occasional appearances in other media, such as the 2010 Black Panther animated series.

Deathlok made the leap into live-action with the very first episode of Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D., which debuted his newly created human counterpart Mike Peterson, played by J. August Richards. The character subsequently endures injuries that require him to take on the robotic enhancements crucial to Deathlok's powerset. This version would go on to make recurring appearances throughout the run of Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.

Spellman's comments make it apparent that the enduring nature of that version of Deathlok won't prevent the character from being potentially rebooted in future MCU properties. In fact, a previous rumor suggested that the MCU is interested in utilizing Deathlok, though nothing concrete has emerged since then.

Directed by Kari Skogland, The Falcon and the Winter Soldier stars Anthony Mackie, Sebastian Stan, Emily VanCamp, Wyatt Russell, Noah Mills, Carl Lumbly and Daniel Brühl. New episodes air on Fridays on Disney+.
