The seeds of The Falcon and the Winter Soldier were planted during the filming of a major Marvel Studios film.Producer, President and Chief Creative Officer of Marvel Kevin Feige discussed the origin of The Falcon and the Winter Soldier during the Television Critics Association Winter Press Tour. Feige said that watching Anthony Mackie and Sebastian Stan's interaction on the set of Captain America: Civil War fueled the idea of a television series. "From the dailies of CIVIL WAR, seeing them interact with each other...if we ever had an opportunity we would watch a whole show [of that]," he said. Feige also confirmed that the first season of The Falcon and the Winter Soldier would be six episodes in length, and noted that each show featured a rather large budget.RELATED: Falcon and Winter Soldier Theory: Zemo May Form One of These Dangerous Marvel Supervillain Teams

During the course of Captain America: Civil War's second act, Mackie's Sam Wilson and Stan's Bucky Barnes had a rather contentious relationship -- which was ironic, given their shared friendship with Steve Rogers. The Falcon and the Winter Soldier will see Wilson and Barnes once again joining forces after the events of Avengers: Endgame, with Wilson struggling to uphold the legacy of Captain America. Official trailers and TV spots for the film have also highlighted the rapport between the two.

Following the events of Avengers: Endgame, Sam Wilson/Falcon (Anthony Mackie) and Bucky Barnes/Winter Soldier (Sebastian Stan) team up in a global adventure that tests their abilities -- and their patience -- in Marvel Studios’ The Falcon and The Winter Soldier.

Directed by Kari Skogland, The Falcon and the Winter Soldier stars Anthony Mackie, Sebastian Stan, Emily VanCamp, Wyatt Russell, Noah Mills, Carl Lumbly and Daniel Brühl. The series premieres March 19 on Disney+.
