With the release of The Falcon and the Winter Soldier just days away, star Anthony Mackie revealed his attempt to acknowledge Sam Wilson's Louisiana roots was rejected.

Mackie opened up about trying to sneak in a very specific New Orleans connection at a press conference for the Disney+ show, which debuts this week. The thought came to him after learning some crucial information about his character: they shared a hometown.

"It's always a surprise when the minds get together and the information trickles down to you," Mackie said. "When I first read the script, I was really happy and acknowledged the fact [that Sam is] from Louisiana, specifically, because that's the best state in the union and New Orleans is the best city in the world. I had one request that if he was from Louisiana that I had to eat crawfish on camera. I don't know who said no but somebody said no!"

Much like Sam Wilson, Mackie is a Louisiana native from New Orleans. So, the actor and his character share a connection just beyond the MCU. But the actor is not done with Sam Wilson, as he wants to reteam Scarlett Johannson for a Falcon and Black Widow spinoff.

Directed by Kari Skogland, The Falcon and the Winter Soldier stars Anthony Mackie, Sebastian Stan, Emily VanCamp, Wyatt Russell, Noah Mills, Carl Lumbly and Daniel Brühl. The series will premiere on March 19 on Disney+.
