During Disney Investor Day 2020, Marvel Studios debuted the first full-length trailer for one of Disney+'s most anticipated series, The Falcon and the Winter Soldier. The trailer teases threats both new and old, as Sam Wilson and Bucky Barnes deal with the legacy of Captain America. Steve Rogers may have given his shield to Sam, but it looks like there's another, government-sanctioned Captain America.

In addition, while the trailer for The Falcon and the Winter Soldier promises a bold new era of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, it also shows that the project is still firmly rooted in its past thanks to the return of an iconic score from Captain America: The First Avenger.

The Falcon and the Winter Soldier is part of a whole new chapter of the MCU. Now that Steve Rogers has retired, it's up to his two sidekicks to ensure Captain America lives on. However, they are doing so in a world that is growing infinitely more complex. These changes are apparent in the trailer for the Disney+ series, as Sam and Bucky once again find themselves hunted by multiple parties.

But despite the darker aspects of the future, one thing The Falcon and the Winter Soldier won't lose is the hope and idealism that comes with the red, white and blue shield. That much becomes apparent at the end of the series' first trailer, when, as the title of the series appears on the screen, it's accompanied by a new version of Captain America's theme from 2011's The First Avenger.

Captain America's theme was a triumphant piece of music that married perfectly to the character's 1940s roots. It embodied all of Steve Rogers' qualities, and it was the perfect companion to his heroic acts during World War II. Since then, the theme has made a few brief appearances in other films. Fortunately, in The Falcon and the Winter Soldier trailer, it makes a proud and powerful return.

The use of this score shows that the two title characters are truly the successors of Steve Rogers and that, through them, the legacy of Captain America lives on. It's unclear if the music will be a part of the series itself or if it was simply used for the trailer, but that doesn't really matter. Its return in the trailer shows fans exactly what they needed to know: Sam and Bucky are continuing a story that began nearly ten years ago, and they will continue to embody the qualities that made Captain America the legend he is.

Directed by Kari Skogland, The Falcon and the Winter Soldier stars Anthony Mackie, Sebastian Stan, Emily VanCamp, Wyatt Russell, Noah Mills, Carl Lumbly and Daniel Brühl. The series debuts on Disney+ on March 19, 2021.
