Even if Fairy Tail is not a part of Shonen Jump's legendary "Big Three," and even if My Hero Academia and Demon Slayer are in the shonen limelight, it's one of the great anime/manga adventures of the late 2000s and 2010s. Heroine Lucy Heartfilia is a celestial wizard who can summon the astrology signs as warriors, and she joins the powerful Fairy Tail guild to find a new home among fellow wizards. And she meets all kinds of people during her adventures.

One way to measure a character's worth is whether they have earned a high honor or ability, such as One For All from My Hero Academia. All Might is very choosy about who gets to hold that quirk, and the user must be tough, brave, selfless, inspiring, and incorruptible. So, who in the large cast of Fairy Tail deserves this quirk, or not?

Update September 14th, 2020 by Louis Kemner: The My Hero Academia and Fairy Tail fandoms are still going strong, and the stories of Natsu Dragneel and Izuku Midoriya continue to thrill shonen fans to this day. Both franchises are getting fresh material to keep them going, and it's fun to imagine if these characters could borrow each other's powers. Seeing how One For All is such a central Quirk to My Hero Academia, it's a good call to review a few more Fairy Tail characters and see if they are worthy.

15 Deserves It: Erza Scarlet

Erza is a shoo-in for One For All. Honestly, out of all of Fairy Tail's characters, she is probably the most worthy, so the list begins with her. Personality-wise, Erza is a fine fit for this quirk, since she is brave, fiercely loyal, loving (like a big sister), and compassionate toward others.

And, of course, her combat skills and powers are enormous, so she could certainly add One For All to her arsenal and get the hang of it. It would require a short adjustment period, since Erza typically uses weapons, but that's not a huge obstacle.

14 Doesn't Deserve It: Natsu Dragneel

Natsu Dragneel in Fairy Tail

This is a close call. Natsu does have some factors in his favor when it comes to inheriting One For All, but he falls a bit short. He's one of the tougher members of the Fairy Tail guild, ranking high among all Fiore wizards, in fact. His fire magic and melee combat style fit One For All well.

But Natsu is pretty dense sometimes, and he often antagonizes his friends and goofs off too much during battle. He has too much fun during missions, and he has some more growing up to do before receiving One For All. But he's getting there.

13 Deserves It: Makarov

Makarov creating a ball of energy in his hands during the Fairy Tail anime

This petite old man is the third guildmaster of Fairy Tail, and he has held this position for a long time. He defers greatly to Mavis, the first master, but he is worthy of nearly as much respect. In fact, he's a grandfather figure to everyone, not just his actual grandson (Laxus).

Makarov is kind and would gladly give his life for his guildmates, seeing them as family. Other Fairy Tail members feel that way too, of course, but Makarov embodies it better than anyone. This, combined with his formidable melee combat powers, make him an appealing candidate for One For All.

12 Doesn't Deserve It: Lucy Heartfilia

Lucy is a cheerful and fun-loving girl who joins Fairy Tail in the very first episode, and her magic is based on summoning astrology warriors and minions from gold keys. She isn't the type to pick up a sword or throw a punch.

This is already a strike against her where One For All is concerned, and what is more, her bratty attitude and habit of getting easily scared or rattled isn't compatible with One For All. Lucy is not a coward or a quitter, but she lacks Erza's steely resolve and courage.

11 Deserves It: Elfman Strauss

Elfman calls himself a man with a capital M, and he will say something similar about anyone who impresses him. He's not just acting tough; he can prove it on the battlefield by using his Take Over magic to become a monstrous beast.

This rugged, melee style is just right for One For All, and Elfman's sheer grit and tenacity are a fine fit for this quirk, as are his values of loyalty and the virtue of perseverance. All Might would indeed declare Elfman a fine Man for such a quirk.

10 Doesn't Deserve It: Juvia Lockser

This blue-haired young woman joined Fairy Tail after the climactic battle against Phantom Lord, and she developed an immediate infatuation with Gray (even calling him "Gray-sama"). She can use water magic, and her body is also water, making her resistant to return fire.

Juvia is a reliable fighter, but she can only do so much, and she is mainly motivated by trying to impress or protect Gray from harm. Her preoccupation with Gray would interfere with her eligibility for One For All, since she needs to fight for everyone's sake, not just that of her crush.

9 Deserves It: Gajeel Redfox

At first, Gajeel was a villain, being a part of the thuggish Phantom Lord guild (along with Juvia and Jose). He personally abused Lucy while she was captive, and Natsu was hard-pressed to defeat him. Fortunately, Gajeel turned himself around.

He joined Fairy Tail and started to atone, and he earned the forgiveness of nearly everyone around him. Now, he uses his dragon slayer magic for good, and he will take any risk to defend his new family. This tenacity, honesty, and well-rounded perspective would make him a strong candidate for One For All.

8 Doesn't Deserve It: Lucy Ashley

It seems Lucy can't catch a break in All Might's eyes. Everyone in Fiore has an Edolas counterpart, and Lucy's is Lucy Ashley, a tough girl who fights the enemy herself, rather than using celestial magic. Magic was rare on Edolas, anyway (and now it's gone).

She's a good fighter, but her attitude could use some work, and she's too confrontational and bully-ish for a quirk like One For All. She also doesn't demonstrate any truly remarkable skills or talents during combat, either. She's just a ho-hum fighter.

7 Deserves It: Ul

Also known as Ur, Ul was the woman who trained Gray and Lyon to use maker magic; in this case, ice. She even suggested that they all walk around in their undergarments to build up resistance to the cold.

RELATED: D&D Moral Alignments of Fairy Tail Characters

She is a motherly figure who always looks out for others, and she practically treated Gray and Lyon like her sons. She also willingly gave her life to put an end to Deliora's rampage, and with a smile on her face too. Had she not lost her life this way, she'd be an exemplary user of One For All.

6 Doesn't Deserve It: Ultear Milkovich

This is the daughter of Ul, and she is scarred by the cruel experimentation that she was subjected to as a youngster. At first, it was hoped that torture would help unlock humanity's full magical potential, but Ultear took matters into her own hands.

She's a powerful fighter and once fought for the Grimoire Heart guild, showing off her sheer anger and hostility to everyone around her. Now, years later, she helps Jellal and Meldy hunt down dark wizards, but as a whole, she's not interested in being hero. Her mind is on other things, and All Might would not be impressed.

5 Deserves It: Laxus Dreyar

laxus dreyar in the fairy tail anime

When he first appeared, Laxus actually did not deserve One For All, since he was self-centered and valued only strength, not bonds of friendship and loyalty. He actually wanted to weed out his guild's weakest members, Sabertooth style.

RELATED: Fairy Tail: Natsu's 5 Greatest Strengths (& His 5 Weaknesses)

No more of that. Laxus has become a proper Fairy Tail wizard and uses his immense strength to defend his fellows, and he will risk his very life for them. Given all that, and his overwhelming power and skill, and it's clear that he has earned a chance for One For All.

4 Doesn't Deserve It: Ivan Dreyar

Ivan Dreyar

This wizard is a member of the Raven Tail guild, and he is the son of Makarov and the father of Laxus. He has some serious differences with his father, and he once tried, and failed, to get his own son on his side.

Ivan fights dirty with the use of illusions and his guildmates, and he values power and prestige, not the protection of others. With all this in mind, he would make a poor candidate for One For All, even if his melee combat skills are solid.

3 Deserves It: Kagura Mikazuchi

This young woman is a real powerhouse, standing as Mermaid Heel's strongest wizard. Kagura is a master of the sword, and she fought on par with both Erza and Minerva Orland during the Grand Magic Games, which is saying a lot.

RELATED: Fairy Tail: 5 Strongest (& 5 Weakest) Dragon Slayers

Kagura's technique and bravery are right on par for One For All, and she nobly wants to protect the innocent and fight for justice. It's true that she unfairly attacked Erza for her brother Simon's death, but that misunderstanding has been cleared up. Kagura's life isn't consumed by wrath and vengeance.

2 Doesn't Deserve It: King Faust

King Faust is the ruler of Edolas, but he is not a gentle and wise sort of king. Instead, he is power-hungry and somewhat paranoid, and he schemes to steal all of the magic power from Earthland so he can maintain his army's strength.

King Faust is highly antagonistic toward the Earthland guests, and he enjoyed trying to crush them in his dragon-shaped Dorma Anim, a gigantic war machine fueled by magic. If he got One For All, his first thought would be exploiting it. That must not happen.

1 Deserves It: Sting Eucliffe

Sting 02

Sting is a dragon slayer, being based on the color white so he can complement Rogue's own powers. Sting is like several other Fairy Tail characters: a misguided fellow who used his powers to harm others, until he learned what power is really meant for.

Now he fights for good, and he'll risk his very life against any dragon or Spriggan 12 wizard with every fiber of his being. With that in mind, and his formidable combat skills, it's fair to say he deserves a shot at One For All.
