Wendy is a dragonslayer who joined Fairy Tail after the Oracion Seis's defeat after it was revealed her guild, Cait Shelter, was a fabrication. It was a difficult moment for such a young girl to deal with, but Fairy Tail was the perfect guild to fall into, one that was practically built on friendship and love.

On the surface, she's just your typical loli character, one that always finds its way into Shounen anime, for whatever reasons. There's a bit more to her than that, and her interactions with her fellow dragonslayers, as well as Carla, are always good. She does have more than a few things about her that make no sense though.

10 Her Childhood

While it's obvious she would have a tie to a dragon at some point and didn't spend her entire life in Cait Shelter, everything about the time before then seems to needlessly shoehorn in as many characters as possible. She knows Natsu and Gajeel, which sure... we can buy that. They are all dragonslayers, so it makes some sense.

Where it gets iffy is that she also traveled with Mystogan. It added a little conflict into her healing Jellal during the Oracion Seis arc, but it wasn't even needed. All of it just felt so needless, and it's so unbelievable that she'd continue to bump into important plot characters.

9 Not Seeing Cait Shelter As An Illusion

There's no doubt that a small child who was in desperate need of a family would latch onto Cait Shelter and ignore the signs that were there. So in that sense, it's understandable if Wendy didn't want to believe it was fake. That doesn't seem the case here though. She truly believed it was real.

It's really hard to believe that Roubaul was able to hold an illusion that was this perfect for as long as he did. It just doesn't make sense that someone that strong could even exist. If he could do all this as a spirit, his magical power while alive had to rival that of Zeref.

8 Her Insecurities

While it's understandable why she's so shy and why she prefers to avoid combat as often as she can, fans soon realize she's more of a supporting character who heals others. She's more or less the cleric of the party, to use D&D terms. All of these are great flaws, but the degree they are played up doesn't make a whole lot of sense.

You can have all these insecurities without needing to break down in tears, as she does more than a few times in the series. The biggest spot this is true is during the S class trials when Gray and Loke beat her and Mest. She starts crying almost instantly, blaming herself for the loss. Fairy Tail isn't known for subtlety, but they could have toned down this aspect of her character, just a little bit.

7 Not Getting Motion Sick While In Flight

This is an issue with Natsu as well as most Dragonslayers. Their ability to somehow be carried by their Exceed caretaker without any issue makes no sense, especially when the second they get on a vehicle, it's instant motion sickness. While cats are certainly not vehicles, they are still moving in the air, just like you would on a vehicle.

You'd think dangling in the air would be even worse than riding around on a train, but apparently not. It's a minor plot point that we wish just didn't exist. Mashima could have given the Dragonslayers a different and equally as humorous weakness.

6 Her Fight With Sherria

Most of Wendy's fights are pretty balanced, and she's one of the few characters who succumb to fatigue, unlike others like Natsu, who push past it because of friendship powers. This fight is the one exception to that as Wendy's stamina and magic go well beyond what she should be capable of.

Out of nowhere, she could fight hand to hand despite never showing it before this. Add in that she was tanking damage that she'd never been capable of doing before, and it's all a bit head-scratching. It's likely due to the second origin unlocks, but it still felt very convenient. At least it led to their wholesome friendship afterward.

5 Her Magic

As a whole, it makes total sense; she's a healer who can use air spells offensively, no problem there at all. The issue is how she can cast enchantments on herself like Raise, yet is incapable of healing herself. Why can one form of magic work on her and not the other? It's rather illogical that you can buff yourself, but can't heal.

This is especially true when it seems like her healing spells have no limit, capable of healing people from just about anything. You could have a huge blown in your chest, and Wendy will be able to fix you right up. The only thing she was incapable of healing was Natsu's tumor.

4 Trying To Reason With Sylph Labyrinth

We can chalk this mostly up to her being a little young and naive, but that doesn't necessarily excuse her from trying to go all Naruto on them during the Sun Village arc. They'd already firmly established themselves as selfish, only here to collect the treasure they were after.

This is put on full display when they willingly chop one of the frozen giant's legs off. It's then and only then that Wendy realizes talking isn't going to work, and she needs to start using actions instead of words. While the anime may be about friendship, it rarely cures a villain's dark heart.

3 How She Activated Dragon Force

It was an awesome scene, and her battle with Ezel was one of her better fights in the whole series, but how she activated Dragon Force felt very random, especially when you consider how Natsu achieved his. Natsu had to eat Etherion, a magical weapon that more or less works like a satellite nuke.

All Wendy had to do was eat some magical air and then poof; the ability was gained. Powerups are always going to be a bit random, but it never makes sense when they show up out of nowhere, just because the character needs it to beat a strong foe.

2 Being Saved From Face

Fairy Tail has a bad habit of completely undercutting potentially emotional moments, by stripping away the consequence of the action almost immediately. A few can survive this fact, like Gajeel's sacrifice, but others fail to overcome it. Wendy and Carla were willing to kill themselves if it meant taking out Face, knowing that it would keep their own guild members safe.

It's a pretty big moment that plays in perfectly with the overall theme of Fairy Tail, but it's wiped away right away by Mest teleporting the two to safety. It never made sense why Mashima wasn't ever willing to take the risk just once and let one of his main characters die.

1 Letting Her Hair Grow Out Long Again

This is admittedly more of a nitpick than anything, but why did Wendy regrow her hair back out? After the Face incident, she had an extremely symbolic moment where she cut her hair short, saying she wasn't going to whine or cry anymore. That she was going to be strong and always do whatever it takes to protect her friends.

It's a great character moment considering how scared she was earlier in the series, as mentioned on this list. Why couldn't she just keep the short hair to symbolize the change? Not only that, why'd she go back to long hair before the next arc even started? It never made any sense.
