In the world of Fairy Tail, Dragons sit on top of the food chain. They're colossal creatures that possess tremendous Magic and raw destructive power. Over the course of the series, viewers were drawn in to the lore of the Dragons because of the Dragon Slayers and the Dragons that raised them.
When these Dragons finally showed up, they were every bit as powerful as fans made them out to be. Their power was unmatched by humans; not even the Dragon Slayers at the time could compare to their might. However, these Dragons are not equally powerful. In fact, some are so much more powerful than others that they strike fear into the hearts of their own kind.
10 Motherglare Was Strong Enough To Give Atlas Flame A Tough Time
Motherglare came through the Eclipse Gate with other Dragons at the behest of the evil Rogue Cheney, who used Dragon Tamer Magic to have Dragons do his bidding. During this attack, Atlas Flame recognized Natsu as Igneel's son, turned on Rogue, and proceeded to attack Motherglare. She held her own against Atlas Flame for quite some time and even managed to get some good hits in on the Fire Dragon. Motherglare is capable of laying numerous eggs, which hatch instantly and battle multiple enemies.
9 Animus Used His Power To Become King Of Stella
Animus suffered a gruesome fate at the hands of Acnologia, but even when he was near death, he had power enough to perform the Dragon Soul Technique to seal himself in Sonya's body. Animus is capable of different things with his Magic: he was able to manipulate Sonya's mind and produce a false image of himself which Sonya could see, and he can also bind someone in place just by pointing in their direction. His breath of light is a huge beam of pure energy.
8 Grandeeney The Sky Dragon Utilizes The Wind In Battle
Sky Dragon Grandeeney is more gentle-looking than other Dragons, but that doesn't mean she's weak. Though she'd much rather avoid a fight, she has no problem displaying her power when the situation calls for it. She was one of the few Dragons that traveled forward in time to defeat Acnologia, and since she utilizes the wind in combat, she has a great advantage over any Dragon. She also raised Wendy Marvell to be a very powerful Dragon Slayer.
7 Skiadrum The Shadow Dragon Takes On The Characteristics Of Darkness
Skiadrum is a Dragon that looks just as dark as a shadow — hence the name Shadow Dragon. Like Grandeeney and Igneel, Skiadrum also traveled to the future through the Eclipse Gate with the hope of gaining enough power to defeat Acnologia. Everything Rogue knows about Shadow Dragon Slayer Magic, he learned from Skiadrum.
He possesses the unique ability to manipulate any human's memory, as he did with his son Rogue. This allows him to create memories in the human mind that either never happened, or change the content of the memory completely. Power like this should be feared.
6 Weisslogia Is The White Dragon With Sophisticated Power
Weisslogia is a kind Dragon who raised Sting as his own son. He taught Sting his signature brand of Dragon Slayer Magic, which is both powerful and sophisticated. One can judge his strength based on Sting's abilities because he taught Sting all he knows. His stigmata is capable of immobilizing his opponents and his breath attack is more like a lethal laser beam. Like Skiadrum, Weisslogia also possesses the ability to rewrite a human's memories, which he did to Sting.
5 Metalicana Is An Iron Dragon With A Tough Hide
Metalicana is the Dragon that taught Iron Dragon Slayer Magic to Gajeel, and judging by just how powerful Gajeel is, it's obvious that Metalicana is much more powerful. As an Iron Dragon, Metalicana has a very sturdy hide that's likely more durable than that of most other Dragons, which makes him a threatening opponent. He showed up along with other Dragons to save mankind from Tartaros.
4 Atlas Flame Is A Kind Dragon With Immense Power
Atlas was first introduced as a hostile enemy to humans because he was under the influence of Dragon Supremacy Magic. Fans were shocked to find out that he was actually good friends with Igneel and Natsu was glad to call him his uncle. During his battles, one could see just how powerful this Fire Dragon was.
His body was made entirely of flames, which made him immune to even the most powerful attacks. Atlas Flame was recognized as a deity by a village of giants, and when the entire place was frozen over, he easily melted the ice and saved the people with but a fragment of his spirit.
3 Irene Belserion Is A Human Who Turned Into Dragon With Great Power
Irene was a human and during her time, she was known as the Dragon Queen. She used her enchantment power to give humans the ability to harness Dragon Slaying powers, so she was also known as the mother of all Dragon Slayers.
She's very powerful, able to enchant whatever she sees fit. During her battle with Erza Scarlet, she easily summoned a gigantic meteor as a testament to her strength. Her ability to fight as a human and a Dragon like Acnologia gives her a huge advantage over any opponent.
2 Fire Dragon King Igneel Is Very Proud And Has The Power To Back Up His Ego
Igneel is known as the King of the Fire Dragons, so one can be sure that he is terribly powerful. During a few flashbacks in the series, viewers saw that he was a bit on the arrogant side and could only wonder what this Dragon was capable of. When he emerged, fans finally saw that Igneel was a gigantic Dragon and his one-on-one battle with Acnologia fully proved his might. While other Dragons were known to flee from Acnologia, Igneel was the only one eager to fight him. His firepower makes Natsu's look like a joke.
1 Acnologia Is The Self-Proclaimed Dragon King
Acnologia was once a human who used his Dragon Slaying powers so much that he turned into a Dragon himself. His power was without equal for over four hundred years. He was known to destroy entire nations at will and even the most powerful of Dragons were wary of him.
Since his attribute was Magic itself, Acnologia was nearly invincible. Human barely stood a chance against him and were terrified by the mere mention of his name. Acnologia killed nearly all the other Dragons in the world as a testament to his great power.
