Sporadic fighting doesn't always indicate a dysfunctional relationship, after all.

Laxus would be reminded of his own Thunder God Tribe, and he would admire how loyal everyone is in Fubuki's squad.
Fubuki wouldn't warm up to Laxus right away, but if the two of them fought a few monsters together, they would soon respect one another as fighters, and Fubuki would no doubt be drawn to Laxus' unshakable confidence and heroic attitude. Laxus would be flattered, and return those feelings before long. Fubuki just joined the Thunder God Tribe.
