The Fairy Tail Guild is filled with mysteries, most of which were unraveled as the show progressed. A lot of secrets were kept from the guild members as well as the outside world. Many of the members grew up as Fairy Tail wizards while others joined later in life.
All the while, they never knew of the guild's darkest and longest-kept secrets. For a place filled with fun and jovial characters, the Fairy Tail Guild was surely shrouded in enigma, most of which dated as far back as the founding of the guild.
10 Zeref Himself Taught The Guild's Founders Magic
Over the course of the series, Zeref was known as the legendary black wizard who is the epitome of evil. During the show, viewers were introduced to several worshipers of Zeref, which made them wonder what he would be like should he show himself. After his introduction, it was later revealed that he knew all the founders of Fairy Tail as he taught them magic himself. In a short period of time, he turned a group of seemingly powerless individuals into powerful wizards.
9 Wizard King August Was Born In The Fairy Tail Guild
It was revealed that not only were Mavis and Zeref lovers, they also had a child together. Though Mavis' body was inside a Lacrima, Precht was somehow able to safely deliver the baby, which he soon abandoned.
If only Precht had raised him, the Guild would have been invincible. After nearly a hundred years, August returned to Magnolia with Zeref, who was unaware of the fact that he had a child, to destroy the very place he was born.
8 Mavis Vermillion, Fairy Tail's Founder, Was Immortal
After casting an incomplete black magic spell known as Law, Mavis believed she had stunted her growth and she'd remain as she was for her whole life. It was only after talking about it with Zeref that she realized she had been cursed to be immortal like Zeref. Mavis was heartbroken because the nature of the curse warrants that those nearest to her would die should she harbor the slightest form of affection towards them. She ended up running away to live in solitude.
7 Fairy Tail Guild Possessed More Magic Than Acnologia Himself
After the guild's members were attacked by Acnologia on Tenrou Island, they lived in fear of the terrifying dragon who nearly destroyed them all. Unbeknownst to the guild members, they possessed magic that was capable of defeating Acnologia, known as the Lumen Histoire. If this magic had been unleashed, perhaps they could have stood a chance against Acnologia way back then, but all's well that ends well.
6 Master Jose Is Fairy Tail's Oldest Enemy
Master Jose of the Phantom Lord Guild has been an enemy of Mavis since she was a little girl. Jose and his guild members, then known as Blue Skull, attacked Tenrou Island and slaughtered the residents of Mavis' village, leaving her as the sole survivor.
In her quest to return the island's sacred treasure, she and her companions eventually learned magic from Zeref, and after they had defeated Blue Skull and founded the Fairy Tail Guild, Jose went on to create another guild known as Phantom Lord.
5 It Has Four Grand Spells, Not Three
During the course of the show, fans came to know that the Fairy Tail Guild has three Grand Spells: Fairy Law, Fairy Glitter and Fairy Sphere. These spells are all legendary and widely known to be extremely powerful. Towards the end of the series, it's revealed that there is a fourth one. The Lumen Histoire, otherwise known as Fairy Heart, was the most powerful form of magic at the time as it could also be called Eternal Magic. This power utterly trumps the other three in terms of its destructive capability.
4 Fairy Tail's Second Master, Precht, Accidentally Created The Fairy Heart
In his attempts to revive Mavis, Precht performed countless experiments on her body for over thirty years. He was not successful, but the experiments did result in something that would shake the very foundations of magic. All his magics used in his experiments clashed with the tremendous magic power in Mavis, and it triggered the curse of Anhkseram. This resulted in what would be known as Eternal Magic: Fairy Heart.
3 The Fairy Tail Guild Was Widely Known As The Mightiest Guild On The Continent
Even at the very start of the series, the Fairy Tail Guild was the guild to beat. They had such a large number of incredibly powerful wizards. With people like, Makarov, Gildarts, Laxus, Mystogan, Mira, Erza, Natsu etc., this guild was not to be trifled with as it was a tradition of theirs to make sure that their enemies regretted ever picking a fight with them. At the series' start, Lucy Heartfilia's sole dream was to join this amazing guild and go on adventures with them.
2 Zeref Is More Connected To The Guild Than He Is To Any Of His Followers
Zeref had many followers, including the demons of Tartaros he created. But these followers never saw him, with the exception of Mard Geer. Zeref himself played a huge part in the founding of Fairy Tail and even his brother, Natsu, was a very famous wizard there. Zeref was the lover of their founder, Mavis, and was seen for the first time on Tenrou Island, the guild's sacred ground.
1 Mavis Vermillion Was Never Buried On Tenrou Island
The members of Fairy Tail all knew Tenrou Island to be the guild's sacred ground. This was because Fairy Tail's first master, Mavis Vermillion, was believed to have been buried them. This was not the case as she never died to begin with. She was still alive beneath the guild hall, encased in a lacrima. In truth, the island is their sacred ground because Mavis was born there. Their second master, Precht, erected a shrine over an empty grave to hide the fact that Mavis was still alive and cursed with immortality.
