10 Natsu Dragneel Is A Total Goofball
Natsu Dragneel is a classic shonen protagonist, in all the good ways and less savory ways alike. He's akin to Naruto Uzumaki and Monkey D. Luffy, being a brash, confident and somewhat thoughtless shonen lead who lets his actions do the talking.
Natsu always means well, and he will risk his life for friends such as Lucy Heartfilia. But he is also tactless, has no sense of boundaries, complains often, rarely thinks things through and is totally impatient. He often needs characters like Erza to restrain him.
9 Juvia Lockser Is An Obnoxious Yandere At Times
Juvia Lockser, the water mage, joined the Fairy Tail guild shortly after Phantom Lord's defeat. Juvia clashed with Gray Fullbuster and was instantly enamored, though she struggles to express these feelings properly. She tends to get carried away, and is unaware of how tiresome she can get.
Juvia certainly is loyal, but she is also reckless and has little restraint, especially when it comes to Gray and personal boundaries. She also provides a lot of comic relief and acts silly at times, though she does have her mature side once in a while. She was once willing to lay down her own life to save Gray's while they fought Invel of the Spriggan 12.
8 Cana Alberona Wants To Drink & Party Nonstop
Some anime characters are known for being big eaters, such as Goku and Luffy, while Cana Alberona is a big drinker. She can guzzle an entire barrel of wine and feel fine, and she once had a drinking contest with Bacchus Groh of the Quatro Cerberus guild.
Cana is a loyal friend and a clever fighter, and she will take any battle seriously when lives are at stake. Otherwise, though, Cana would rather party it up, and she makes a big racket the entire time.
7 Gajeel Redfox Has To Prove He's Tough
Gajeel Redfox is the iron dragon slayer, and like Juvia, he once belonged to Phantom Lord before joining Fairy Tail. Gajeel has a rather macho personality, and he expresses it by constantly competing with Natsu and butting heads with him. He feels like he must prove himself the best, or else.
There's more to his personality than that, though. Gajeel was once cruel and cold while fighting for Phantom Lord, but now he is a gruff and protective friend, and like Juvia, he is ready to lay down his life to protect others. He has also become a wonderful boyfriend for Levy McGarden, and he would do absolutely anything for her. He's grown up.
6 Lucy Heartfilia Is Smart But Rather Vain
The heroine herself, Lucy Heartfilia, is a mixed bag personality-wise. On the upside, she is clever and is launching her own literary career, and she is a kind and compassionate girl who can easily make friends. She is generally cheerful and optimistic, and she also had the resolve to leave her wealthy family to find her own future.
Then again, Lucy is quite vain about her appearance, and has made a fool of herself a few times by trying to charm her way out of a situation with looks alone (it doesn't usually work). She is also quick to anger or annoy, and tends to overreact to surprises. She also has a tough time with money, and often feels down about it.
5 Gray Fullbuster Tries To Stay Cool
Gray Fullbuster is one of Natsu's rivals, and not just because of the "ice vs. fire" theme. As a whole, though, Gray sets a better example as a Fairy Tail wizard, having a cool attitude to match his icy magic. In general, Gray approaches problems with a calm and collected attitude, though he can also get easily flustered or annoyed.
Gray didn't like Juvia's yandere ways at first, and he kept pushing her away. He grew to appreciate her over time, though, and when Juvia seemingly died at Invel's hands, Gray flew into a rage and managed to defeat his Spriggan 12 foe.
4 Laxus Dreyar Has Learned Some Lessons
As a boy, the lightning-wielding Laxus Dreyar was a model Fairy Tail wizard, and he was close to his grandfather, Makarov. But later on, he decided to weed out Fairy Tail's weakest members, arrogantly presuming that he alone knew what was best for the guild. He was wrong, and he paid for it with exile.
Laxus reappeared during the Tenrou Island arc, and again during the Grand Magic Games arc as a loyal and humble fighter. Laxus is tougher than ever, but now he fights for the sake of others, and he took down his wicked father Ivan during the Games. He also risked his life to save his fellows from the wrath of Tempester, a noble move indeed.
3 Erza Scarlet Is A Great Role Model
Erza Scarlet is a tough and responsible wizard who suffered while working as a child slave in the Tower of Heaven project. She later joined Fairy Tail and became one of its most powerful members, and she is confident, but not arrogant, about this. She's not the type to flaunt her power.
Erza sometimes goofs off, such as when she tries to make it big as an actress, and she is weirdly fond of cake. Otherwise, Erza is among the most mature and responsible Fairy Tail wizards, acting as a role model for many.
2 Levy McGarden Takes Things Seriously
Many anime series have a "library girl" character, and in Fairy Tail's case, it's Levy McGarden, who can use Solid Script magic in battle to support her fellows. But unlike some other library girls, Levy isn't shy or meek; she is outgoing and cheerful, and is quite pleasant to be around.
From time to time, Levy might express her clear annoyance or irritation at someone, but otherwise, she is cool as a cucumber, and always puts the mission first. Everyone can count on her to analyze an iffy situation and think up a solution before long.
1 Mirajane Strauss Is Everyone's Big Sister
Erza sometimes acts like a big sister, and Mirajane Strauss really is one. She looks after her little brother and sister, and she extends this favor to every member of the Fairy Tail guild. Mirajane is a powerful fighter, but she doesn't necessarily enjoy it. She would rather pursue peace and serve drinks to her friends than shed blood.
Mirajane only fights when she must, and she aims to take down her foes with maximum firepower so the conflict can end sooner than later. To Mirajane, combat's only purpose is to protect the Fairy Tail guild and her friends; it's not something to savor or romanticize. It's a responsibility to peace.
