Erza Scarlet is one of the key members of the Fairy Tail Guild. Originally from Rosemary Village, she was captured by a cult and brought to the Tower of Heaven, where she spent years as a slave before finally leading a rebellion to escape. Afterwards, she made her way to Fairy Tail and began working her way up the guild alongside Natsu, Gray, and the other members of the young generation.
She's made plenty of friends during her time there, despite becoming known as one of the most strict members of the group. That's because, despite taking no nonsense from the rest of Fairy Tail, her love for everyone in it and desire to protect them all is made obvious in every appearance.
10 Simon Cared For Erza So Much He Sacrificed His Life To Save Her
Simon is one of Erza’s friends from when she was a slave in the Tower of Heaven. He made friends with Erza after he was kidnapped, and even fell in love with her. Though the affection was never returned, Simon never let his love for Erza burn out. Instead, even when Jellal tried to get him to turn against Erza he still wanted to help her. Simon cared so strongly for Erza that he died trying to save her from Jellal’s attacks.
9 Millianna Has Known Erza Since They Were Children
Millianna goes back quite a ways with Erza, as she was one of the people who knew her as a child. Introduced in the Tower of Heaven arc, she was originally one of the people who worked with Jellal in helping him with his plan. She helped Jellal kidnap Erza, even taking Happy for herself because of her love for cats. Despite her working with Jellal however, she and Erza were able to make amends after Milianna joined Mermaid Heel. These days, the two of them look after each other as treasured childhood friends.
8 Erza Welcomed Juvia Into Their Guild And They Worked Together On Tenrou Island
Juvia is brought into Fairy Tail after her team is defeated. Once forced to disband, Juvia has nowhere to go and winds up working with Erza. Erza is one of the members of Fairy Tail that travels to the Tower of Heaven to save Juvia, though she’s mostly motivated by wanting to stick with Gray.
Juvia also worked with Erza against Meredy, though even she isn’t able to control Juvia’s rage when Meredy admits her true goal of trying to hunt down and kill Gray. Still, Erza looks at Juvia like one of her family members, and Juvia proves her devotion to Fairy Tail time and time again.
7 Kagura And Erza Put Aside Their Differences To Become Friends
Erza’s relationship with Kagura shows just how complex things in Fairy Tail can be. Kagura initially holds a lot of hatred in her heart after the events of the Tower of Heaven arc. The two of them have one of the best fights in the series in the Grand Magic Games, but eventually put their differences aside when they’re forced to fight dragons to protect Fiore.
In the end, Kagura realizes that Erza is not her enemy, and when Erza asks if the two of them can be friends, Kagura asks if she can instead be treated as Erza’s little sister. Surprisingly (or unsurprisingly given who Erza is), she strongly agrees.
6 Mirajane Has Grown Closer To Erza Over Time
Early on, Erza and Mirajane didn’t seem like they were very close friends. A glimpse at their younger selves shows Erza and Mirajane constantly fighting one another. But when Mirajane loses her powers, she calms down and becomes one of Erza’s good friends and a valued member of Fairy Tail who doesn’t fight. At least, until she’s forced to re-activate her powers to deal with Laxus’ friends who threatened her family. Eventually, Mirajane comes to be known as one of the few people in Fairy Tail who is on par with Erza herself.
5 Wendy Is Like Erza's Little Sister
The moment Wendy joins the team, Erza looks after her like a little sister. She’s constantly protective of the inexperienced Dragon Slayer, though she’s completely confident in just how talented Wendy is in battle. Erza might be a tad too attached to being the big sister though, as when she was hit with a magic spell that reduced her to her child size, one of her biggest worries was that Wendy might see her and think of her as the little sister. Wendy is also the only reason Erza was able to stand tall against her mother.
4 Lucy Is Part Of One Of The First Teams Erza Joins In Fairy Tail
Lucy is one of Erza’s most trusted comrades. The two of them have been working together since Erza’s first appearance, as she joins up with Natsu and Gray to create “Fairy Tail’s strongest team."
Erza is protective of Lucy, but most often behaves in the same way as Natsu and Happy do, randomly appearing in her apartment and making herself at home. She’s always been supportive of Lucy’s career as a writer too, even if she doesn’t understand everything she’s writing.
3 Gray Was One Of the First People Erza Met In The Guild
Gray is also one of Erza’s oldest friends in Fairy Tail. When she chose to go on a big mission, Gray was one of the first partners that she chose. Unsurprisingly, Gray was one of the few members to go along to find Erza after she left the guild during the Tower of Heaven arc. When Gray and Natsu were in the midst of a battle because they couldn’t control their powers, it was Erza who appeared to stop them both and get them to calm down. She reminded them of how close they were, having grown up with them.
2 Natsu Saved Erza's Life During The Tower Of Heaven Arc
Natsu and Erza are close enough that rumors abound that they’re much more than friends. That said, it doesn’t seem like this is what Hiro Mashima had in mind. Instead, it feels more like they just grew up together and are naturally defensive over one another. They’ve been guildmates since they were young children, after all. There’s the slight problem that Natsu can be absolutely terrified of Erza when she gets serious, but that’s only because she’s beaten him senseless more than a few times for being so reckless and being a pain to their guild master.
1 Jellal And Erza Are Friends Who Can't Admit Their Strong Feelings For Each Other
Jellal’s relationship with Erza is probably the strangest. Originally, he was the person who attempted to kidnap Erza on the orders of the evil magic within him. After he was defeated by Natsu, Jellal went out of his way to try and reform himself and become a decent person. Seeing the work he’s put in, Erza has warmed her heart towards him. The two of them are constantly being teased as becoming more than friends, and Jellal seems to be the only person Erza may one day give her heart to.
