Paramount Pictures has chosen Godzilla Vs. Kong director Adam Wingard to direct its upcoming remake of the 1997 action movie Face/Off.

Deadline revealed that Wingard will take the helm of remaking John Woo's Face/Off. Oren Uziel was initially attached to write the upcoming remake, but now it is reported that Wingard will co-write the script with his frequent collaborator Simon Barrett. The reimagining will be produced by Neal Moritz and David Permut. No casting for the film has been announced.

The original Face/Off starred John Travolta as FBI Special Agent Sean Archer and Nicolas Cage as terrorist leader Castor Troy. The plot revolved around Archer undergoing a face transplant surgery to take on Troy's identity to discover the location of a bomb. However, things go awry when Troy awakens and uses the same transplant to take on Archer's identity. The over-the-top action flick was a critical and box office hit. It was the biggest success for director John Woo, who also directed Mission: Impossible 2 and Hard Target.

The trailer for the monster film broke the record for Warner Bros.' biggest trailer debut. While many fans were upset that the trailer gave away too much, director Wingard assured them that there were still surprises in store. "I'm beyond thrilled to be able to share the insane epic mayhem. I know it looks like it shows a lot but this is only the tip of the monster iceberg," he posted on Instagram.

Wingard's Godzilla Vs. Kong is scheduled to release in theaters and on HBO Max on March 31, after being pushed back a week. The delay was reportedly due to the James Bond film No Time to Die being delayed from April 2 to Oct. 8.

Directed by Adam Wingard and written by Eric Pearson and Max Borenstein, Godzilla vs. Kong stars Alexander Skarsgard, Millie Bobby Brown, Rebecca Hall and Brian Tyree Henry. The film arrives in theaters and on HBO Max March 31.
