Fans of Microsoft's classic RPG series Fable are rejoicing after hearing the beloved franchise is being resurrected. Long-time fans have been waiting for a new Fable entry for over a decade, and it looks like Microsoft is finally delivering. The short Fable promo featured in the Xbox Games Showcase hinted that the series might be returning to its roots, making many die-hard Fable fans ecstatic. While many people are extremely hyped for the game, some Fable loyalists are still wary of jumping on board after so many disappointing releases.

Fable started on the original Xbox but the series came into its own with Fable 2 on the Xbox 360. Despite falling short on some of developer Peter Molyneux's ambitious promises, the open world and enthralling storyline still captivated players. The series was on top of the video game world until Fable III released in 2010. The title was very divisive, with many long-time fans criticizing the game for feeling like a shell of its former self.

Fable fans are not the most forgiving group of people in the world. Many still have a bad taste in their mouths due to all the terrible spinoff games. The new Fable game must bring back the genuine feeling found in the first two games if it wishes to please the Fable community. Fans could feel Lionhead's passion in the first two entries. It felt like the developers did all they could to make Fable a fantastic game. Everything from Fable's epic story to its witty British humor felt authentic.

The third game felt much more rushed, causing that passionate feeling to become lost in the development process. It was as if Microsoft forced Lionhead to make Fable III as quick as possible to capitalize on the second game's popularity. Loyal Fable fans could sense this causing them to resent the game. Peter Molyneux even called Fable III a Trainwreck, stating that he understood why it disappointed fans. If the developers didn't like the game, how will its loyal fans?

Video game worlds have come along way since gamers first entered the great land of Albion. Next-gen technology can take the Fable universe to new heights by expanding the world and breathing new life into its environment. While Lionhead did a great job enhancing all the towns and villages from Fable to Fable II, the cities in Fable III didn't have the same charm as the previous entries. Many long-time fans would like to see a more expansive Albion bustling with lively villagers, fantastical creatures and creative communities. It would help immerse players and give them an authentic Fable experience.

Every main entry of the Fable series has had fantastic writing, even Fable III. The story of a young child growing into a highly skilled adventurer living out his or her destiny as a respected hero or a feared villain enthralled gamers over the series' lifespan. Many of the first two game's characters were also well written, making them very loveable and relatable. A new Fable entry needs to have a compelling storyline if it wishes to please the established fanbase. The Fable series has always been extremely story-driven, so having a gripping storyline is an essential key to its success.

The Fable series has always been one of the most cherished franchises on Xbox consoles (not counting the terrible spinoffs). It is an incredibly unique RPG that many video game fans hold dear to their heart. While the series has lost its way over the years, many fans would like to see Fable return to its roots. With any luck, the upcoming Fable entry will rejuvenate the series and give fans a Fable experience they won't soon forget.
