Lucas Black opened up about reprising his role of Sean Boswell for F9.

"There was always talk of bringing my character back," Black revealed on EW's Binge podcast. "When they called me for 7, you just want to know what that entails.  It was a small role, more of like connecting the dots with Han, which I think was good and I was willing to do."

Black continued, "But, for me, I just want to know the plan for Sean Boswell, and not really just to be stuck in there. I think the producers and writers and studio realized that the fans really wanted to see the Fast family and everyone that was involved, the hero characters, united in the same movie."

Black shared that he signed on for F9 because he was excited to reunite with everyone from the other movies and "contribute in a big way to the success at the end." He concluded, "And so they made it happen for F9, and we'll see what happens from there."

Sean Boswell's character was introduced in The Fast and the Furious: Tokyo Drift as an American-expat living in Japan. In the film, the troublemaker with auto mechanics skills befriended Twinkie, Neela and Han Seoul-Oh, the latter of whom became his mentor. Sean made a brief appearance in Furious 7 to race Dominic Toretto and give him the mementos he was able to recover from Han's RX-7 following his mentor's alleged death.

In addition to Black's return as Sean, F9 will see Helen Mirren and Charlize Theron reprising their roles from The Fate of the Furious as Shaw and cyber-terrorist Cipher, respectively. Jordana Brewster is also returning to the franchise as Mia Toretto for the first time since Furious 7, while Sung Kang's Han is also returning from his alledged death in the franchise.

In other F9 news, newcomer John Cena is counting down to the film's summer debut by releasing a weekly supercar video series. The first episode of Get Fast & Furious with John Cena found the actor gushing over the 1968 Mid-Engine Charger driven by Vin Diesel's Dom Toretto in the film. At one point in the clip, Cena points out, "When you think of Fast & Furious, you think of American muscle. Now here in Fast 9, lookout."

Directed by Justin Lin, F9 stars Vin Diesel, Michelle Rodriguez, Tyrese Gibson, Chris "Ludacris" Bridges, John Cena, Nathalie Emmanuel, Jordana Brewster, Sung Kang, Helen Mirren, Kurt Russell and Charlize Theron. The film arrives in theaters June 25.
