WARNING: The following contains major spoilers for Extreme Carnage: Scream by Clay McLeod Chapman, Chris Mooneyham, Marcio Menyz, David Nakayama, and VC's Travis Lanham, on sale now.

Marvel's most vicious symbiote, Carnage, has returned with big plans in store for the rest of the world. The unholy spawn of Venom isn't very good about flying under the radar, and he has already attracted the attention of both Iron Man and Flash Thompson. However, these aren't the only heroes on the hunt for the savage villain and Andi Benton, the host of the Scream symbiote, has been on the trail longer than anyone else.

Her search for the remnants of Carnage's cult has just led her straight to the serial killer symbiote, and their latest run-in has just cost the Scream symbiote everything.

While tracking down Demogoblin, one of Carnage's most dedicated zealots, Scream encounters Doppelganger, a monstrous version of Spider-Man. After wrangling the menace, she turns her attention to the attending Guardsmen, although her interrogation is cut short by a horrible pounding in her head. She tries to escape into the sewers, only to discover that she has been pulled into the depths of her mind instead, and she is not alone.

Andi Benton Scream Symbiote

In addition to Scream, Carnage is there as well, and he has wormed his way into the symbiote's mind. It is surprisingly easy for the diabolical symbiote to take hold of Scream and Andi's body, leaving her with no choice but to turn on her own symbiote to free herself. Unfortunately, it also means letting go of the one true friend that Andi has left.

While she might be closer to Scream, Andi Benton bonded with a piece of Flash Thompson's Venom symbiote to become Mania first. That portion of Venom also carried with it a Hell-Mark that transferred from the symbiote to Andi. This curse gave her the ability to protect herself, even after losing her connection with the symbiote.

When the Scream symbiote bonded with Andi in 2019's Absolute Carnage #3 by Cullen Bunn and Gerardo Sandoval, the two were at relative odds with one another, at least in terms of sharing the same mental space. As they continued to battle the forces of Knull from the shadows, their bond became stronger both literally and figuratively. Together, they have worked tirelessly to save as many lives as they can and put an end to the bloodshed wrought by the dark forces that have terrorized them from the beginning, with the Hell-Mark providing a huge advantage in the process.

The infernal powers granted to Andi have kept Scream out of the clutches of its symbiote brethren on more than one occasion. But now that Scream has given in to Carnage's temptation, Andi must save herself. She unleashes the power of the Hell-Mark upon both symbiotes, freeing herself but also destroying the symbiote that had been her partner and friend.

As the symbiotes burn away and what little left of them oozes off of her skin, Andi can't help but to try and pool some living portion of her symbiote together from the remains. It seems that in Scream, Andi found a kindred spirit that she desperately needed.

Thanks to her hellish powers, Andi is still more than capable of holding her own, but her will to actually do so may have just been shattered. As the gathered Guardsmen close in around her with their weapons drawn, all that Andi can do is weep. Hopefully, she will find some way to pull herself together before her situation gets any worse.
