As the most-watched Netflix original film to date, the premium streaming service has already moved forward with a sequel to Extraction, signing Joe Russo to write the script.

Russo, who wrote the screenplay to the original film based on the graphic novel Ciudad by Ande Parks, will also produce the planned sequel with his brother Anthony Russo through their production company AGBO.

"The deal is closed for me to write Extraction 2, and we are in the formative stages of what the story can be," Russo confirmed to Deadline. "We’re not committing yet to whether that story goes forward, or backward in time. We left a big loose ending that leaves question marks for the audience."

Extraction follows mercenary Tyler Rake, portrayed by Chris Hemsworth, tasked with rescuing the son of a powerful drug lord from a rival cartel in Bangladesh. While unattached, Russo is optimistic that both Hemsworth and director Sam Hargrave will sign on to the sequel once the script has been completed. No premiere or production start date has been set at this time.
