A new photo from the set of Lionsgate's The Expendables 4 reunites Sylvester Stallone and Jason Statham.

"Having a great time at work with my great friend Jason on the new EXPENDABLES !!!" Stallone wrote on Instagram. The accompanying photo sees Stallone in full Barney Ross gear standing beside Statham, who's decked out in Lee Christmas' signature tactical outfit. Statham also shared the same photo from his own Instagram account, writing, "Back in business with the main man [Sylvester Stallone]."

"It’s so much fun to bring these stars together for a no-holds-barred action film," Lionsgate Motion Picture Group President of Acquisitions and Co-Productions Jason Constantine said when Expendables 4 picked up steam in late August. "The new film will raise the stakes and be the biggest, most badass adventure yet."

The Expendables franchise launched in 2010 from a story written by Stallone. The films are notable for featuring some of the leading names in action films past and present, including Stallone, Statham, Dolph Lundgren, Randy Couture, Arnold Schwarzenegger, Jet Li, Steve Austin, Terry Crews, Bruce Willis, Chuck Norris, Jean-Claude Van Damme, Scott Adkins, Wesley Snipes, Mel Gibson and Harrison Ford. Each of the three original films centered on an elite group of mercenaries tasked with increasingly deadly missions, and while the reviews have been mixed, the franchise has grossed over nearly $805 million worldwide.

A fourth Expendables film has been in various stages of production for years and was at one point expected to begin shooting in 2019. Of course, that never came to fruition, but in April 2021, Couture discussed the status of the movie on The Jenna Ben Show, saying, "It sounds like we're gonna get to do [Expendables] 4. They've been kicking it around for a couple of years now but I've just recently heard from my agent that they're working on the script for [Expendables] 4 and they're planning to schedule filming for Expendables 4 for this/next fall. So I haven't seen the script yet. They had one a couple of years ago that they were talking about making Expendables 4 out of, and then it [the previous script] got away. You just never know, it's such a weird business sometimes..."

In addition to the core cast of Stallone, Statham, Lundgren and Couture, The Expendables 4 will welcome newcomers Andy GarciaCurtis "50 Cent" Jackson, Megan Fox and Tony Jaa.
