Lionsgate's The Expendables 4 has added Andy Garcia to its ensemble cast.

According to THR, Garcia will play a CIA agent tasked with accompanying the eponymous band of mercenaries on their deadly mission. He joins returning franchise alums Sylvester Stallone, Jason Statham, Dolph Lundgren and Randy Couture, as well as newcomers Curtis "50 Cent" Jackson, Megan Fox and Tony Jaa.

"It’s so much fun to bring these stars together for a no-holds-barred action film," Lionsgate Motion Picture Group President of Acquisitions and Co-Productions Jason Constantine said when Expendables 4 picked up steam in late August. "The new film will raise the stakes and be the biggest, most badass adventure yet."

The Expendables franchise launched in 2010 from a story written by Stallone and starring some of the biggest names in action, including Arnold Schwarzenegger, Jet Li, Steve Austin, Terry Crews, Bruce Willis, Chuck Norris, Jean-Claude Van Damme, Scott Adkins, Wesley Snipes, Mel Gibson and Harrison Ford. Each of the three original films centered on an elite group of mercenaries tasked with increasingly difficult missions, and while the reviews have been mixed, the franchise has grossed over $804.1 million worldwide, making a fourth entry inevitable.

The Expendables 4 has been in various stages of production for years and was at one point expected to begin shooting in 2019. Of course, that never came to fruition, but in April 2021, Couture discussed the status of the movie on The Jenna Ben Show, saying, "It sounds like we're gonna get to do [Expendables] 4. They've been kicking it around for a couple of years now but I've just recently heard from my agent that they're working on the script for [Expendables] 4 and they're planning to schedule filming for Expendables 4 for this/next fall. So I haven't seen the script yet. They had one a couple of years ago that they were talking about making Expendables 4 out of, and then it [the previous script] got away. You just never know, it's such a weird business sometimes..."

Directed by Scott Waugh from a script by Spenser Cohen, Max Adams and John Joseph Connolly, The Expendables 4 has yet to receive a premiere date.
