Expendables 3 Targets Nic Cage, Clint Eastwood and Harrison Ford

Action fans, prepare to have your brains blown up like just about anything hit by a bullet in a John Woo movie. Total Film talked to The Expendables producer Avi Lerner about the sequel, which opens this week, and wound up getting an earful about the inevitable Expendables 3.

“We’ve approached Clint Eastwood to be one of the guys, we’ve got a character in mind for him," he said. "We’re talking to Harrison Ford. [And we want] Wesley Snipes when he comes back from prison. I’ll give you one more name, we’ve got Nicolas Cage to play [one of the characters].”

Total Film noted that their recording of Cage's character's name was garbled, so they didn't hear it clearly, but thought it was something along the lines of Hunter Grimlenson or Hunter Gatherer. The site scored a few more SPOILERY details about the upcoming sequel, so skip the next two paragraphs if you don't want elements of The Expendables or The Expendables 2 ruined.

Lerner said he'd like to see Mickey Rourke return for the next film, which might be tricky as his character's death is what sets the team off on its mission in the latest installment (for a full plot synopsis, click here). “And we’re going to bring Mickey Rourke back, if he won’t be too crazy," Lerner said. "I like Mickey. And of course, all the existing stars [will return]”

Another piece of SPOILER intel came when Jean-Claude Van Damme swung by to talk to Lerner. “Thank you for everything, Avi, and thank you for Expendables 3!” the actor said, to which Lerner responded, “We can bring in your twin brother!” We haven't seen the film yet, but that clearly implies that Van Damme's bad guy in Expendables 2 doesn't walk away from the film unscathed or even in one piece.

The Expendables 2, directed by Simon West, opens Friday with stars Sylvester Stallone, Jason Statham, Dolph Lundgren, Jet Li, Bruce Willis, Jean-Claude van Damme, Chuck Norris, Arnold Schwarzenegger, Liam Hemsworth, Terry Crews and Randy Couture.
