While Captain Marvel herself probably won't appear in a meaningful way until her sequel in 2022, Carol Danvers made quite the impression in her last appearance, punching a hole straight through a warship and leaving Thanos desperate to defeat her. Before she does reappear, audiences will get the chance to see more Carol Danvers adjacent characters in the upcoming Disney+ series WandaVision and Ms. Marvel. This means they could very well tie into Captain Marvel 2.

WANDAVISION

Monica Rambeau as Captain Marvel

Monica Rambeau, the daughter of Maria Rambeau, played a prominent role in the first Captain Marvel film and looked up to her Auntie Carol, even after she went missing. As many people figured, Monica Rambeau will play a role in the Marvel Cinematic Universe going forward, as Teyonah Parris will play an adult version of the hero in WandaVision.

The Disney+ series will feature multiple characters who have appeared throughout the MCU in new roles. Kat Dennings and Randall Park are set to reprise their roles of Darcy and FBI Agent Jimmy Woo, respectively. However, Monica's reappearance offers the MCU a chance to introduce a new iteration of Monica. As fans of the comics know, Monica becomes a superhero in her own right. While she takes the name Captain Marvel at first, she later settles into multiple other identities, such as Photon, Pulsar and, most recently, Spectrum. Disney+ can show fans what became of Monica in the years following Captain Marvel, how she and her mother lived through the later waves of heroes and planetary catastrophes and how when Carol returns to Earth, she might find herself staring at a superhero of equal measure.

It's even more likely that WandaVision will directly tie into Captain Marvel 2 now that WandaVision writer Megan McDonnell will be penning the script for the sequel. especially considering the MCU's focus on making things interconnected.

MS. MARVEL

Ms. Marvel, on the other hand, might not directly feature any Captain Marvel characters. There's a possibility we'll see Carol or Monica at some point in the series, but the main character, Kamala Khan, is a fresh face. However, rather than bring back a character from Captain Marvel, the Disney+ series will offer an equally important glimpse at the legacy Carol left behind. Kamala idolizes Captain Marvel, becoming a hero inspired by her, carrying on the legacy Carol left behind. In the comics, Kamala is a major fan of Carol -- which is why she herself takes up the moniker of Ms. Marvel -- and it seems likely some aspect of that admiration will make its way into the MCU. What this can show is the impact heroes like Carol have on those who they protect and rescue.

That show's potential tie-in to Captain Marvel 2 also has a lot of interesting potential. Disney won't just introduce this new character and leave her out of the future MCU films. Instead, Kamala, like Monica, will appear on Disney+ and then play a bigger role later on in the films. It will be fascinating to watch Kamala, after spending a season of a television show protecting Jersey City, come face to face with her idol, and, potentially, save Carol from some future threat.
