Earth, Mars and the Belt find themselves locked in heated tensions after humanity is granted access to thousands of Earth-like planets. The planet Ilus is one of these worlds, with Earthers,

Martians and Belters vying to lay claim to its natural resources. However, the ruins of an alien civilization bring with it unknown dangers that will be explored as the season progresses.

Syfy had canceled The Expanse in May 2018 after three seasons, citing low ratings and high production costs despite its critical acclaim. By the end of the month, Amazon picked up the series for a fourth season with executive producer Naren Shankar noting that the show no longer had content restrictions and would film natively in 4K UHD.
