Across the multiverse, Carol Danvers is a consistent hero, fighting against the dangers of the world either as Ms. Marvel, Binary, Captain Marvel, or even without any nominal powers. While there are dark versions of her, they typically come to be in realities where all the heroes are corrupted, like the realities of the Marvel Zombies or the horrifying Cancerverse.

But there's one version of Carol Danvers from Exiles who had the same powers but was a far more detached and murderous figure. Alongside her boyfriend, she wiped out untold lives in a short amount of time.

Exiles Captain Marvel Dark Variant 2

The premise of Exiles allowed for an ever-rotating cast of heroes, each pulled from their home realities for a mission to maintain the stability of the multiverse. In reality, there were two groups sent on these missions, with the titular Exiles being composed of primarily heroic figures, while their more anti-heroic counterparts Weapon X were assigned to more dangerous and morally-ambiguous missions. The latter team was often composed of villainous versions of classic heroes, with murderous variants of She-Hulk, Spider-Man, and Daredevil serving on the team at various points. Among these dark variants was a version of Carol Danvers, aka Captain Marvel.

Little was revealed about this version of Carol Danver's backstory, but her general attitude made it clear how dangerous and demented she really was. Debuting in Exiles #38 by Chuck Austen and Jim Calafiore, this version of Carol Danvers possessed the same enhanced strength, speed, flight, and energy blasts of many of her counterparts. But whenever posed with a challenge, this version of Danvers was quick to resort to violence. Regardless of whether a mission could be solved with violence, it was always her impulse to carry out some act of brutality, with Danvers smiling lightly while crushing men's heads with her bare hands. There was no heroism, just a twisted self-confidence.

Exiles Captain Marvel Dark Variant 1

This dark variant of Danvers found an unexpected love interest in the trurly unsettling King Hyperion, a demented variant of the Superman-expy who became a vicious and rebellious member of the team. After sleeping together in the recent ruins of a version of the Xavier Institute, she became a dedicated part of his plan to ignore their mission and simply take over a reality for themselves. Danvers threw herself into this role with gusto, displaying a truly disturbing lack of empathy with anyone who got in their way. Alongside Hyperion and the Carnage-powered Spider-Man, Ms. Marvel killed plenty of people across multiple realities, ultimately staking their claim on a new world and wiping out most of the heroes who attacked them.

This would also turn out to be this version of Danvers' last battle as she was increasingly drained by the Exiles when they finally made their move. This left her open to being killed in a destructive brawl with the Exiles' Morph. This version of Danvers remains an anomaly in the grand scheme of things, as variants of Captain Marvel are typically heroic and dedicated in their mission to protect others and save lives.

But this version of the character seemed to lack any of the heroic qualities that define Carol Danvers, leaving nothing but self-centered brutality that quickly decimated plenty of lives. While she may not have been the worst member of Weapon X (which remains King Hyperion, whose actions resulted in the destruction of multiple Earths across the multiverse), she is one of the most uniquely dark versions of Captain Marvel in the multiverse.
