With a title like "The Clone Conspiracy," it only makes sense that Carrion and the Scarlet Spider will swing into the upcoming Spider-Man event.

CBR has the exclusive first look at Alex Ross' cover for "Amazing Spider-Man" #21, a tie-in to the "Clone Conspiracy" event featuring the return of both longtime Spider-Man enemy Carrion and Spidey's sometimes-adversarial ally and clone, Kaine, the character most recently known as the Scarlet Spider.

The Scarlet Spider is inexorably entwined with Spider-Man's clone-filled history. Before Kaine, another Peter Parker clone originated the Scarlet Spider identity -- Ben Reilly, the central character of the '90s Clone Saga, who became Spider-Man for a short time. Kaine's past is a checkered one, pitting him at odds with Peter far more often than the pair worked together, he found his heroic calling in his solo series in 2012, eventually joining the latest incarnation of New Warriors.

Carrion's clone background is even more complicated than that. The first Carrion was a clone of Miles Warren -- clone mastermind The Jackal, who is set to play a major role in "The Clone Conspiracy" -- before the mantle was taken over by Malcolm McBride, likely best known as part of Carnage's team in the "Maximum Carnage' storyline. A third Carrion emerged in the late '90s; the version of the character set to appear in "The Clone Conspiracy" isn't yet clear.
