Before it's onscreen debut tonight, USA has released a prequel comic setting up the events of the first episode of their new series "Complications." The show, the latest from "Burn Notice" creator Matt Nix, focuses on John Ellis, a mild-mannered ER doctor who gets roped into a violent world of crime after interfering in a drive-by shooting and saving a young man who's been marked for death. The comic, which features some "choose your own adventure" options, is written by Nick Hawthorne; storyboards, art and color are by Trigger, based on characters created by Matt Nix.

Fans of DC's animated universe should take note, as series lead John Ellis is played by Jason O'Mara -- the voice behind Batman in recent releases like "Batman vs. Robin," "Justice League: Throne of Atlantis," "Son of Batman" and "Justice League: War." The prequel comic, which is available online, will be the first of a number of digital issues released throughout "Complications" 10-episode season.

"Complications" premieres tonight on USA at 9 PM ET.

Series Description

From the brilliant mind of Matt Nix, creator and executive producer of the iconic hit series "Burn Notice," comes USA's new and unpredictable thriller, "Complications." Starring Jason O'Mara ("Vegas") as Dr. John Ellison, the 10-episode original series is set to premiere in summer 2015.

"Complications" centers on a disillusioned suburban doctor who, while still dealing with the emotional effects of his daughter's death, unexpectedly becomes a vigilante hero when he intervenes in a drive-by shooting, saving a young boy's life. When John learns the boy is still marked for death, he's compelled to save him at any cost. Through this journey, he must compromise his morals, often doing the wrong thing for all the right reasons.

The series also stars Jessica Szohr ("Gossip Girl") as Gretchen, a reckless but capable nurse; Beth Riesgraf ("Leverage") as John's wife, Samantha, who while attempting to support her husband, is struggling with her own issues; and Lauren Stamile ("Burn Notice") as John's by-the-book coworker, Dr. Bridget O'Neil, who finds herself dealing with the aftermath of his actions.

"Complications," from Fox 21 Television Studios, is created by Matt Nix who also serves as executive producer and director of the pilot. Michael Horowitz will serve as co-executive producer.
