A new clip from behind the scenes of The Nevers gives some of the HBO series' stars and writers a chance to explain the intentions of the mysterious extraterrestrial Galanthi.

The interview was shared exclusively with CBR ahead of the home release of Season 1, Part 1 of The Nevers. "The Galanthi, as we come to know them, have come, obviously, to help us to try to wake us up and help us understand what's at stake, and they've been trying to communicate with us," Black explains in the clip. Donnelly adds, "All of the dreadful ways that we have been treating our planet and treating each other have all come to bear."

Espenson goes into more detail about why the arrival of the Galanthi creates a conflict of its own. "There is a war over the prospect of a helpful alien species who is going to come save mankind from itself, and which many people don't want to let into their brains," she says. "They don't want help from a benevolent alien no matter how benevolent and they are willing to take the whole species down rather than let it be helped."
