Robert Kirkman’s Skybound Entertainment has a new comics series on the way via Image Comics that puts a new spin on a classic tale from Greek mythology. CBR has the exclusive first details about the book, written by a pair of Skybound vets — but comic book newcomers.
“Kill the Minotaur” is written and created by Chris Pasetto and Christan Cantamessa (of the video game “Red Dead Redemption”), and illustrated by artist Lukas Ketner (“Witch Doctor”), colorist Jean-Francois Beaulieu and letterer Clem Robins. Pasetto and Cantamessa co-wrote Skybound’s first feature film, “AIR,” a post-apocalyptic tale released in 2015 and starring Norman Reedus and Djimon Hounsou. Their comic book debut trades sci-fi for mythology, as the upcoming comic aims to reinvent the classic story of the part-man, part-bull minotaur.
“Growing up in Italy, I was fascinated with mythology and its archetypal stories,” Cantamessa said in Image’s press release. “Our goal is to continue a time-honored tradition of storytelling and to offer a novel take for a modern audience.”
“The story of Theseus and the Minotaur was my favorite Greek myth as a kid, and Christian Cantamessa and Chris Pasetto have really run with that classic and twisted it into something shocking and fun,” Ketner added in a statement. “The series has been an absolute joy to draw, and it’s an honor to have my artwork treated to Jean-Francois Beaulieu’s coloring expertise.”
Check out the official synopsis, and the first cover from the series, below.
Athens lost the war to Crete. Now, they pay tribute to King Minos by sacrificing their best citizens to his unearthly labyrinth. Conspirators believe Theseus can be the hero they need to end the mad king’s bloody reign… but no one on this world has ever encountered anything like the savage minotaur.
Chris Pasetto, Christian Cantamessa (Red Dead Redemption) and Lukas Ketner (Witch Doctor) reinvent the most fearsome beast of all with this horrific tale of heroism. Each issue features 30 pages of story.
“Kill the Minotaur,” by Chris Pasetto, Christian Cantamessa, Lukas Ketner, Jean-Francois Beaulieu and Clem Robins, debuts June 14.
