Written by Cullen Bunn and illustrated by artist Ramon F. Bachs and colorist Stephane Paitreau, Valiant Entertainment's Roku comic will focus on the titular assassin who first made her debut in the pages of Ninjak. Valiant Entertainment has provided CBR with a first look at some pages from the upcoming series and Ember-1, whom Roku will be taking on in the first issue.
"Ember-1 is a British super-spy," Bunn told CBR. "She's cunning, quick-witted, stealthy, and ruthless when she needs to be. She has also been physically augmented, making her stronger, faster, and tougher than the average mercenary. She's resistant to mental manipulation, thanks to intense conditioning and the very best cyber-enhancements. And she's been outfitted with some of the most advanced spy gear you can imagine--not the least of which is a stealth suit that renders her virtually invisible. She's a force to be reckoned with."
"I think fans will dig this character because she's both familiar and new," he continued. "She definitely fits into certain tropes of comic book secret agents. But I think she has lots of refreshing traits as well. She's no dour agent. She has personality and verve."
"Ember-1 will be a real challenge for Roku," he added. "They're going to be at one another's throats straight from the jump. But there's more history between these two than you might expect. Ember-1 remembers Roku. She remembers who she once was. That doesn't, of course, improve her disposition toward the assassin."
