Marvel Comics has provided CBR with an exclusive first look at Sara Pichelli's variant cover to "Avengers vs. X-Men" #3 written by Ed Brubaker with art by John Romita Jr. Pichelli's variant depicts a distraught Hope Summers, the mutant messiah, with the broken pieces of a watch in front of her as her fiery (possibly Phoenix possessed) reflection stares over her shoulder directly at the reader.

During a 2011 press event for "AvX," Brubaker expounded on the similarities and differences between Captain America and Cyclops. "They're really similar characters in their own way, because they're both patriotic for their own people, and they're both willing to do anything," Brubaker said. "I think Cyclops is probably more willing to [push the limits] than Steve Rogers."

CBR also spoke with Brubaker in January, where he spoke to the development and initial plotting of Marvel's big summer event. "I barely think about it at this point because we're so endgame on that already, which is crazy since it hasn't even started yet," the writer told CBR. "We're all friends, and Jason [Aaron] and Brian [Bendis] and all of us had a bunch of meetings and plotted out the basic idea of it. Then Jason and Brian wrote the outline, which is constantly evolving and we're constantly giving input."
