BOOM! Studios has announced its very first Lumberjanes series event -- titled The End of Summer -- with the girls of Miss Qiunzella’s Camp for Hardcore Lady-Types facing their biggest challenge yet.
The End of Summer was first alluded to yesterday when BOOM! revealed the release date its Free Comic Book Day/Summer 2020 title Lumberjanes: Farewell to Summer, with the Los Angeles-based publisher having now provided CBR with the first official details. Farewell to Summer -- which arrives for free on Aug. 5 -- includes a preview of The End of Summer, with the event kicking off proper in September's Lumberjanes #73 by Kat Leyh and Shannon Watters.
"The end of summer is fast approaching, but the Lumberjanes have bigger problems than just finishing their camp to-do list -- an evil force is spreading over their forest, sapping the life out of the flora and fauna, leaving a grey forest behind," BOOM! teases in the event's official synopsis. "Known only as The Grey, this power has already taken the Lumberjanes' friends, freezing the Yetis and leaving the bear woman stuck in animal form! If the girls can't defeat The Grey, the Lumberjanes way of life will disappear -- and not jut for the summer!"
Created by Watters, Grace Ellis, Noelle Stevenson and Brooklyn Allen, Lumberjanes was first published in 2014 under Boom! Studios' BOOM! Box imprint. While the title was originally planned as a limited series, positive fan response prompted BOOM! to make Lumberjanes an ongoing comic. The series has gone on to become New York Times best-seller, winning multiple awards, expanding to middle-grade novels and even crossing over with DC Comics in Lumberjanes/Gotham Academy.
"The Lumberjanes have faced off against magical creatures, gods and legends straight from myth with nothing but their smarts and the power of friendship but this time, they'll be facing a threat like nothing they've ever seen before," said BOOM! Executive Editor Jeanine Schaefer. "Our favorite summer camp friends will have to face a force that literally takes away everything they believe in and stand for, in an epic struggle that could end their magical world as they know it."
The End of Summer begins in Lumberjanes #73 by Kat Leyh and Shannon Watters, on sale this September from BOOM! Studios. A sneak peek at the event will be included in Lumberjanes: Farewell to Summer by Aubrey Aiese, Dozerdraws, Maarta Laiho, Casey Nowak, polterink, Sarah Stern and Brooklyn Allen, available for free on Aug. 5.
