EXCLUSIVE: Loki Just Turned Tony Stark Into a Stereotypical Bond Villain

Loki is enjoying something of a personal revolution right now. After he helped save Earth during the War of the Realms, he was appointed King of Jotunheim, the land of the Frost Giants. As much as Loki has always yearned for power and notoriety, he failed to predict the one downfall of mystical fiefdom ownership: It’s painfully boring most of the time.

Luckily, Loki always has a backup plan, which usually involves irritating an Avenger or two. This time around it’s Iron Man who receives the God of Mischief’s undivided attention. A preview for Loki #2 reveals just how quickly Tony Stark can go from genius inventor and philanthropist to stereotypical Bond villain.

The preview sees Loki visit Stark’s headquarters unannounced. Unfortunately, it doesn’t look like Tony got the memo about Loki being a good guy now, as he quickly kidnaps his visitor via a trapdoor and points an enormous laser at him. If there’s any act more characteristic of a Bond villain (except perhaps a long monologue revealing the villain’s plans or a lush, art deco lair that can only be accessed by speedboat) we’ve yet to see it.

Loki #2 goes on sale Aug. 14. Daniel Kibblesmith writes the issue. Oscar Bazaldua is the issue artist. Ozgur Yildirim provides the cover art.
