Summit Entertainment and Imagi Studios have provided CBR News with three exclusive images from "Astro Boy," which opens October 23rd nationwide. Based on the manga of Osamu Tezuka, the film is a modern telling of the character's origins. Following the death of his son, Dr. Tenma creates a robot to replace his lost child. Though he has the memories of Tenma's son, the robot is different. Unable to deal with the grief, Tenma sends him away and the robot goes a journey of self-discovery ultimately assuming the name Astro Boy. In the first two stills, Astro fights for his life in a robot gladiator arena. In the third, he battles the Peacekeeper of Metro City; a robot that can absorb the mass an abilities of the surrounding environment. CBR's Erik Amaya has seen the film -- which features the voices of Freddie Highmore, Kristen Bell, and Nicholas Cage -- and says it is "beautifully animated." A full review will be available next week.
