EXCLUSIVE: "Batman" #497 Cover Parodied By "Scribblenauts Unmasked"

In preparation for the September 24 release of "Scribblenauts Unmasked," WB Games, 5TH Cell and DC Entertainment have provided CBR with a series of homage covers using the "Scribblenauts" DC characters recreating of some of the publisher's most iconic covers.

One of the darkest -- thought most memorable -- moments in Batman's history was "Batman" #497, part of the "Knightfall" storyline in which Bane broke Batman's back. Although the action remains in today's "Scribblenauts Unmasked" cover, it's somehow cuter, bringing in many details in the game's signature art style, including the Batcave's T-Rex and giant penny.

"Batman" #497 was the eleventh chapter of "Knightfall" and started the wheels turning for Jean-Paul Valley (Azrael) to take over the mantle of the Bat. Bruce Wayne eventually recovered and reclaimed the cape and cowl following Azrael's descent into madness.

A "Scribblenauts Unmasked" digital comic will also be available via comiXology for those that purchase the game. The toy enthusiasts out there may also be interested in DC's blind box "Scribblenauts" vinyl figures, available in March.

"'Scribblenauts' is one of the most unique games ever created due to the amount of objects we put in the game, and the unique way that players can interact with those objects via Maxwell's magic notebook," 5TH Cell Senior Producer Caleb Arseneaux told CBR News earlier this month. "When we looked at the DC Universe, we saw an equally huge number of characters and objects that we felt players would love to interact with in a new way. We've added over 2000 DC Universe objects to the game, ranging from Superman to Bizarro to vehicles used by obscure characters."

Check back every day until September 24 for a new cover homage using the trademark "Scribblenauts" style.

"Scribblenauts Unmasked" releases September 24 for Nintendo 3DS, Wii U and PC.
