EXCLUSIVE: Alex Ross Homages Original "Secret Wars" in New Variant

In a new variant cover, Alex Ross looks back three decades and presents an alternate take on Mike Zeck's cover from the original "Secret Wars" #1.

Alex Ross is already on regular cover duty for Marvel's soon-to-debut "Secret Wars" event, but he's also illustrated a variant cover to be sold via his personal site. CBR has the exclusive first look at the image, which is an homage to Mike Zeck's cover for Marvel's original "Secret Wars" #1 back in 1984, except this time with alternate-universe versions of Marvel heroes filling the page.

The cover will be available for pre-sale on AlexRossStore.com starting this Tuesday. Here's a side-by-side comparison of the new Ross cover and Zeck's original:

Secret Wars" #1, by Jonathan Hickman and Esad Ribic, is scheduled for release on Wednesday, May 6; with a prelude #0 issue available on Free Comic Book Day, this coming Saturday, May 2.
