This week marks a new issue of Archie Comics' much buzzed-about zombie horror-meets-Archie and the gang series "Afterlife with Archie" -- the first new issue since July. In a statement to CBR, series writer and Archie Comics Chief Creative Officer Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa previewed the Thanksgiving-themed issue, and explained the delay.

"This issue picks up right where we left the gang at the end of issue #5, with them sneaking out of Riverdale, even as the town burned," Aguirre-Sacasa said. "The majority of this issue is set in the present -- written as entries in Betty's Diary -- but we do flashback to different points in Betty's life. We thought it might be fun to see Betty's first meeting with Veronica and Archie, during a more innocent time, especially in counterpoint to the daily horror of their current lives."

"After the focus on Sabrina last issue, it was nice to get back to our core cast," Aguirre-Sacasa continued. "And though it took a while longer to get this book out than we planned -- due to circumstances we could've foreseen (me working on the "Riverdale" pilot) and some we couldn't have predicted ([series artist Francesco Francavilla]'s accident) -- we're well into issue #8, so hopefully our schedule will normalize soon. Both Francesco and I want to thank the fans for sticking with the book -- we promise it will be worth it!"

Additionally, CBR has a look inside "Afterlife with Archie" #7, with six pages from the issue by Francavilla. Three of the pages have been seen previously; three are exclusive to CBR.

"Afterlife with Archie" #7 is on sale Wednesday, Dec. 10.
