EXCL. VIDEO: "Powers" Cast Cracks Up; Showrunner Talks Female Characters

The first season of the "Powers" TV series debuted this spring on Sony's PlayStation Network, but as of next week, those without the streaming service will be able to watch the show's first 10 episodes on Blu-ray and DVD. In advance of that release, CBR has a pair of exclusive clips from the "powers" special features.

The first clip shows the cast is a gag reel showing cast members Sharlto Copley (Christian Walker), Susan Heyward (Deena Pilgrim) and Michelle Forbes (Retro Girl), who usually deal with pretty serious material on the show, cracking up on set.

The second clip features first season showrunner Charlie Huston, who announced in May that he won't be returning for "Powers" season two, discussing the importance of female characters in the series.

"We didn't want our female characters to stand in the shadows of our men, and we wanted them to have the kind of strength and personality and the kind of missions that are usually associated with male characters," Huston said. "That was by design, and it's something we're proud of, frankly."

Based on Brian Michael Bendis and Michael Avon Oeming's acclaimed and long-running creator-owned comic book, "Powers" took a very long road to television, as it was first optioned shortly after the series debuted in 2000. "Powers" season one will be available July 14 on Blu-ray and DVD.
