A24 Films has released a new trailer for “Ex Machina,” a sci-fi thriller starring Oscar Isaac as a billionaire tech genius, Domhnall Gleeson as a low-level computer programmer and Alicia Vikander as an artificial intelligence robot called Ava. The new promotional spot depicts the first meeting between employee and employer on the CEO’s remote and expansive property as well as the initial encounter between Gleeson’s character Caleb and the new tech he was brought on board to test out — Ava.
The tension ratchets up quickly as the line between machine and man blurs significantly and Ava begins urging Caleb to not trust his boss. As soon as the facility switches over to red lighting, the trailer takes a sharp turn towards the horrific as the trio engage in a series of potentially deadly mind games.
“Ex Machina” comes from Alex Garland, the writer that penned the scripts for “28 Days Later” and “Sunshine”; “Ex Machina” marks Garland’s directorial debut. “Ex Machina” opens in theaters on April 10. You can check out the new trailer below.
