Ewan McGregor, who's been rumored -- and rumored again -- to be returning to the "Star Wars" franchise, says he'd love to reprise his role as Obi-Wan Kenobi.

"I'd be happy to do the story from Episode 3 where I finish up and Alec Guinness starts," he said over the weekend during an appearance at the Edinburgh Film Festival in Scotland.

McGregor recalled that it was watching his uncle Denis Lawson in the original "Star Wars" that inspired him to become an actor.

"I remember going to see him in 'Star Wars' in my shorts and red socks when my mum picked us up from school," he said. "I was six and it blew my brains out, and that was it. I remember saying of Denis when I was nine I want to be an actor."

It was rumored earlier this month that McGregor is in negotiations to pick up a lightsaber once again, possibly in a series of films that would chronicle Obi-Wan's activities between “Star Wars: Revenge of the Sith” and “Star Wars: A New Hope."

Whether there's any substance to the report, or if it's merely a retread of the rumor that's been circulating since at least 2013, remains to be seen.

"Star Wars: The Force Awakens" opens Dec. 18.
