Evil Dead Rise director Lee Cronin confirms the ridiculous amount of fake blood used in the film.

Per SlashFilm, Evil Dead Rise used around 1,717 gallons of fake blood, or more than is contained within 1,133 living people. Cronin noted that "[It's] all proper sticky, icky movie blood. Like the real deal. There's no cheating of taking some water and putting red food coloring in. Because that will not do. This was all cooked. We had to hire an industrial kitchen to make the amount of blood that we needed, and it was everywhere. So yeah, it's the real deal. And it's splattered all over the screen."

Cronin has also commented on the concerns he had regarding the use of so much fake blood on the set of Evil Dead Rise. "I had to hire an industrial kitchen to create the amount of blood we needed," Cronin recalled. "When I was checking out, I had to warn the landlord, 'You’re going to find bloody hand prints all over the apartment — but they’re not real, honest!'"

Evil Dead Rise Continues the Franchise

The latest entry into the long-running franchise, which began with Sam Raimi's 1981 cult classic Evil Dead, Evil Dead Rise is set to take the series out of its usual wooded locales and into the big city courtesy of a Deadite outbreak within the walls of a Los Angeles high rise apartment building. Cronin previously opened up about Raimi's requests when it came to the film, noting that Raimi asked him to "Make sure there's a book involved, and make sure there are good Deadites." Cronin weighed in on the franchise's demonic villains, saying, "What I love about the Evil Dead is that these aren't just mindless zombies. They talk [and] taunt... There's more Deadite dialogue than ever before."

The film's debut has proven to be eventful too. On March 16, it was reported the executive producer and original franchise star Bruce Campbell, best known for his role as Ash Williams, let loose on a heckler during the film's premiere at South by Southwest. Cambpell reportedly asked the heckler, "What are you doing here?" before telling them to "Get the fuck out of here." During a Q&A panel after the premiere, producer Robert Tapert mused, "I don't get it. He waited all the way through the credits."

Evil Dead Rise slashes its way into theaters on April 21.
