Evil Dead: The Game, a third-person shooter being developed by Saber Interactive (the makers of World War Z) was announced during this year's Game Awards. Along with the Necronomicon Ex-Mortis, the debut trailer showcases some familiar faces from the beloved Evil Dead franchise, including Bruce Campbell as the iconic chainsaw-wielding Ash Williams.

Gameplay features both co-op and PvP modes. Players will be able to combine forces in a team of four to "seal the breach between worlds" or "take control of the powerful Kandarian Demon to hunt Ash and his friends." According to Saber Interactive, those playing as the demon will be able to possess Deadites, the environment and even the survivors.

Much like Friday the 13th: The Game, Evil Dead: The Game will incorporate lore from the 1981 film The Evil Dead, its two sequels and the STARZ original Ash Vs. Evil Dead. Players will be able to explore a variety of maps based on memorable locations from the movies, such as the infamous cabin in the woods, which is featured prominently in the trailer. There have been more than 25 weapons teased, including Ash's trademark chainsaw and boomstick. Through a combination of exploring, looting, crafting and "managing fear," players can level up their skill tree to make slaying Deadites easier.

One of the biggest draws for Evil Dead fans is Bruce Campbell, who is "excited to be strapping on the chainsaw one more time." His character Ash brings nostalgic quips and brand new voice lines to Evil Dead: The Game. As Campbell said in the press release, "Boss Team and Saber Interactive are planning a huge immersive dealio, and I knew I had to come back. You'll be able to step into my shoes and kick some Deadite ass!"

Aside from stepping into Bruce Campbell's shoes, the characters Scotty from The Evil Dead, Lord Arthur from Amry of Darkness and Kelly Maxwell from Ash Vs. Evil Dead are also going to be part of the game. Currently, these are the only survivors confirmed to be present, but considering the horror franchise's vast cast, it is likely more characters will join in future updates.

Billed as a "gore-filled battle against evil," Evil Dead: The Game plans to immerse players in the horror, humor and action of the cult Sam Raimi franchise. While not much information is available right now, Saber Interactive promises "plenty of surprises" for horror heads to look forward to. Evil Dead: The Game is slated to premiere in 2021 for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S, PS4, Xbox One, Nintendo Switch and PC.
