Over the years, Marvel has established a strong relationship with video game giant Activision, producing a number of popular, high-quality games with "X-Men Origins: Wolverine," "X-Men Legends" and the recently released "The Amazing Spider-Man" immediately springing to mind. Nonetheless, no one saw this past weekend's Comic-Con International in San Diego announcement coming, when Deadpool, the masked mercenary who's quick with an insult and even quicker with his weapons, crashed the Marvel Games panel and announced that a game based on his exploits is in the works.

Not much is known about the game just yet -- the teaser trailer was hilarious, but didn't feature much gameplay footage -- but CBR News has dug up a few facts about the project, and they could very well come together into one splendid game experience for 2013. Below is a list of what we know thus far.

High Moon Studios Is Producing The Project

On the final day of CCI, Deadpool tagged Activision's "Amazing Spider-Man banner outside the San Diego Marriott

Founded in 2001, High Moon Studios, based out of San Diego, California, worked on a number of games in their early years, including "Darkwatch" and "The Bourne Conspiracy," a game tie-in with the popular movies, but it was when they got their hands on the "Transformers" franchise that things really began to take shape. "War For Cybertron" came out in 2010, receiving a great deal of critical acclaim and high sales for Activision. A tie-in to the live-action "Transformers: Dark of the Moon" followed a year later, and though not as well received, fans did enjoy it. The studio's latest chapter in the "Transformers" saga, "Fall of Cybertron," ships in August, leaving the team wide open to make the "Deadpool" game everything it deserves to be.

High Moon Studios is no stranger to producing quality action games. "Darkwatch" in particular is a fantastic effort, a first-person shooter with beautiful, spooky atmosphere and excellent gameplay. Its other games are top-notch as well, leading us to believe that "Deadpool" is in good hands. Expect a splendid mixture of precision shooting, over-the-top swordplay and a whole bunch of carnage from these guys.

Nolan North Is Voicing Deadpool

Video game fans should be quite familiar with North's voice, as he's contributed it to a number of great games over the past few years, including Nathan Drake from the "Uncharted" trilogy, the Penguin in "Batman: Arkham City" and, most recently, Alestair Smythe in "The Amazing Spider-Man."

However, what some of you may not know is that he's no stranger to Deadpool or his comic book compatriots. North already voiced the loose cannon in the animated "Hulk Vs." and can also be heard as Cyclops, Pyro and Berzerker in the "Wolverine and the X-Men" animated series. (For good measure, we bet you didn't know he voiced Raphael in the "TMNT" CG film a few years back, did you?) With that kind of background, we're confident North will provide appropriately cocky swagger to "Deadpool" -- and the voices within his head -- when the game comes out. If you need any further evidence of this, just listen to his work in the trailer, which we've included below. Clearly, he's the man for the job.

Daniel Way Is Writing The Story

Longtime 'Pool writer Daniel Way's involvement with the game should keep fans interested

Comic book fans should be familiar with the writing talents of Daniel Way. Over the past several years, he's contributed to a number of Marvel titles, including "Venom," "Punisher vs. Bullseye," "Wolverine: Origins" and, of course, "Deadpool," making him more than experienced enough to put together the story for the game,. Though it's not known just who Deadpool will be facing just yet, a few familiar faces from the Marvel universe just might be popping up. Especially since Deadpool went and taunted Wolverine at the end of the teaser trailer.

As CBR readers know, Way has spent several years scripting the exploits of Wade Wilson, so you know he brings a lot of knowledge to the character. And with its mature-rated approach, you can bet the writer won't hold back with it comes to the character's frank dialogue and ridiculously insane taunting.

The Game Is Definitely Aimed At Older Gamers

If the trailer is any indication, "Deadpool" won't hold back on the carnage when it comes around next year. MArvel's Merc with a Mouth isn't afraid to use his twin pistols to solve his problems, and his swords can do a whole lot of damage as well.

In fact, the game could easily take the same approach as the mature-rated -- and highly appreciated -- "X-Men Origins: Wolverine." On the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 platforms, players could easily rip into enemies using Logan's claws, even going as far as to yank a pilot out of a helicopter and decapitate him in the blades. "Deadpool" may very well end up going to that same extent, and maybe even further.

Obviously, we'll have a better feel of what to expect from "Deadpool" once Activision unveils more gameplay footage, but judging by what we've seen thus far, it appears as though fans are in for a treat.

"Deadpool" is set for release in 2013 on yet unspecified platforms, though Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 are very likely.
