Encanto tells the story of Mirabel Madrigal, a smart and kind girl with no extraordinary abilities whose family is full of superpowered people. Since she doesn't have a gift, Mirabel feels out of place in her family. However, she chooses to protect her family's magic when it starts to flicker and wane.

What results from Mirabel's mission is a story full of compassion, mutual understanding, and family love. Whether it's because they're relatable or because their actions reflect the good in their hearts, the Madrigal family members are extremely likable. However, some of them have stolen the fandom's heart from the beginning.

12 Abuela Alma's Intentions Are Good But Her Actions Are Inexcusable

Alma stands in front of her door

Alma Madrigal, aka Abuela Alma, is the matriarch of the Madrigal family. She's a stern woman who saw her husband Pedro die to save her and their kids, Julieta, Pepa, and Bruno. After receiving a magical miracle, she vowed to protect the Madrigal magic and her family forever.

Contrary to many other Disney movies, Encanto doesn't have a villain. However, many fans consider Abuela Alma the closest option since her actions and expectations for her own family affect them all directly. Although she redeems herself by the end of the movie, Abuela Alma isn't likable before this.

11 Dolores Can't Help But Tell Others' Secrets

Dolores holds a hand up to her ear

Dolores Madrigal is Pepa and Félix's eldest daughter. She's a shy girl with the gift of superhearing. Although Dolores possesses an ability that allows her to be a part of any kind of drama, she prefers to stay away from it. However, she can't help but overstep constantly.

Considering Dolores is able to hear everything (ever since she was a child), the boundaries between private and public information are obviously blurry for her. Although she isn't a bad person, she spends the whole movie making things more difficult for Mirabel by spilling her secrets, which makes it difficult to like her.

10 Felix Is A Fun-Loving & Chill Man

Felix smiles in front of Pepa's door

The Encanto producers describe Pepa's husband, Félix, as someone who is "just there to have a good time." Félix is a carefree man whose main objective in life is to balance his wife's emotions by always remaining positive.

Since Félix is only a secondary character, Encanto doesn't explore his story. However, he's always seen next to his wife trying to make sure she's as comfortable as possible with her emotions. His chill attitude makes him a likable person, but it's difficult to relate to him since the audience knows very little about his story.

9 Agustín Is A Good Father & Husband

Agustin gives a thumbs up with his family

Julieta's husband and Isabela, Luisa, and Mirabel's father, Agustín is a mild-mannered and clumsy man with a tendency to get into accidents. Fortunately for him, his wife can heal him with just an arepa con queso.

Although Agustín is only a supporting character in Encanto, he's one of the first to understand Mirabel's concerns when it comes to Bruno's visions. Instead of turning his daughter in, he helps her keep the secret. Additionally, he stands up for her in front of Abuela Alma. All in all, Agustín is a good, dependable father.

8 Antonio Is The Sweetest Character

The youngest of the Madrigal bunch, Antonio, is a sweet and innocent kid who possesses the ability to communicate with animals. According to the creators, he was supposed to accompany Mirabel on her journey but they decided to let Maribel go through it alone.

Antonio is only a kid, but he's smart, kind, and perceptive. He doesn't fully understand how things work in his house, but he's always ready to help his relatives, even in the smallest things. The moment when he uses his capybaras to keep Abuela Alma's seat warm is one of the cutest scenes of the movie.

7 Pepa's Restraint Makes Her Relatable

Pepa Madrigal is Julieta and Bruno's sister and Abuela Alma's daughter. She's an overly emotional woman who's never been able to fully embrace her sensitive nature because her emotions control the weather. Since her feelings affect everyone around her, Pepa constantly tries to repress them.

Throughout the movie, Pepa tries to control her own emotions unsuccessfully, causing the weather to go wild, which becomes a running joke in the film. However, she's more than this. Pepa's inhibitions, which Bruno pushes her to forget, have many fans with a similar personality relating to her.

6 Julieta Is A Great Mother & Sister

Julieta is Isabela, Luisa, and Mirabel's mother. She's a good-hearted woman with the ability to heal people only using her cooking. Encanto doesn't explain if Julieta's gift comes from a special ingredient or if it's just her own hands, but many fans believe what really heals people is Julieta's love.

Julieta's presence in Encanto is heartwarming. She understands Mirabel's pain and attempts to heal her, both physically and emotionally. In addition to this, she welcomes Bruno with arms wide open, even stopping him from apologizing since there's clearly no need. There's no doubt Julieta embodies familial love and kindness.

Camilo smiles in front of his door

Pepa and Félix's middle child, Camilo, is a witty and energetic 15-year-old teenager who still doesn't know who he is, according to Encanto's writer, Charise Castro Smith. His shape-shifting gift is a metaphor for this lack of self-awareness. Throughout the movie, Camilo is seen playing pranks on his cousins, especially Isabela.

Although he was originally planned as an antagonist for Mirabel, the movie doesn't deepen Camilo's story. Regardless, people love his sense of humor and his energy, and many fans have asked for a Camilo's spin-off story.

4 Isabela Speaks To All Golden Children

Isabela Madrigal is Julieta and Agustín's eldest daughter. She's an elegant girl with the ability to make flowers bloom everywhere. Described by Mirabel as "Señorita Perfecta," or Miss Perfection, Isabela's glamorous nature is only a façade to hide her true, imperfect nature.

Initially, Isabela's perfection antagonizes Mirabel so the audience can only see her as an "entitled and selfish princess." However, she soon cracks under the pressure of the expectations and lets go, becoming a more relatable and inspirational character for it – especially for the people out there who also struggle with other people's ideas of themselves.

3 Almost Everyone Can Relate To Luisa

Encanto's writer, Charise Castro Smith, describes Luisa as someone who carries all the burdens and never complains. Luisa is Julieta and Agustín's middle child and Mirabel and Isabela's sister. Since she possesses super strength, her family and the people in town always count on her for difficult tasks, and she can't find it in herself to say no.

Hardworking and loyal, Luisa Madrigal is only a teenager, but she feels the pressure of performance harder than any other Madrigal. Her song "Surface Pressure" speaks the truth about being "the rock of the family." Additionally, it's a super catchy tune. Most of Encanto's fans find Luisa likable because her struggle is similar to theirs.

2 Mirabel's Journey Has Inspired Many

Encanto's main character, Mirabel Madrigal, is the only member of the Madrigal family without a magical gift. Although this makes her feel constantly left out, when her family's magic starts to fade, Mirabel takes it upon herself to save it, unknowingly changing the other Madrigal's lives in the process.

Like every other Disney protagonist, Mirabel is an inspirational and well-constructed character who goes from being the underdog to the hero through a journey of self-discovery and self-acceptance. Mirabel teaches the audience that no one is perfect and that is fine. As a result, it's impossible to dislike her.

1 Everyone Wants To Talk About Bruno

The Madrigals' ostracized relative, Bruno, is Encanto's most mysterious character until he isn't. Everyone in town believes Bruno is a heinous bad news' bearer, but when Mirabel finally meets him, he turns out to be a caring man who always has his family's best interests at heart.

Although he's Encanto's black sheep, Bruno soon became the fandom's favorite because he's a kindhearted and misunderstood man. But, in addition to this, he stands up for what he believes, which shows when he defends Mirabel from Abuela Alma. What's more, his theatrical rat army and different personas, Hernando and Jorge, make him the funniest Madrigal.
