The classic slasher franchise Scream released its fifth installment in January 2022. Following the format of the previous four films, none of the characters in 2022's Scream were safe from Ghostface's wrath. As a result, the movie has a pretty high body count. With the upcoming release of Scream 6 in March 2023, fans might revisit the previous installment to remind themselves of the franchise's gory kills.

2022's Scream keeps the audience guessing. The victim in the opening phone call scene survives, which is a first for the franchise. However, there are still plenty of bloody kills for gore fans to enjoy. As per usual, no one in Woodsboro is safe, but some victims face far more painful deaths.

8 Tara's Security Didn't Stand A Chance

In Scream, Tara and Sam seem to be Ghostface's main targets, as they are attacked multiple times. After an attack leaves her badly wounded, Tara is moved to a private hospital room on a vacant floor. Luckily, a security officer named Keith is stationed outside her door for protection.

However, Ghostface is pretty crafty. The masked killer attacks Sheriff Judy Hicks and her son, ensuring that all police units would rush to the home of their beloved boss. This gives Ghostface the freedom to get into the hospital and slash the security guard's throat with ease. It's a shame when someone gets killed for doing their job, but it is Woodsboro, and this was bound to happen in a new Scream movie.

7 Vince Schneider Was Ambushed By Ghostface

In the same scene where fans meet all the main characters, a disposable character is also introduced: Vince Schneider. Vince is Liv's horrible ex-boyfriend who was likely abusive. He appears sparsely in the beginning of Scream 5, but he becomes a bigger character when he gets into an argument with Liv's current boyfriend, Chad.

During a confrontation, Vince threatens Chad with a knife and gets thrown out of the bar. He begins urinating against a wall, but he's interrupted when he is suddenly lit up by headlights. While audiences were led to believe that Vince's murderer was sitting in the car, this was just a distraction. Ghostface comes out of nowhere and stabs him repeatedly from behind.

6 Judy Hicks Died For Her Son

As one of the smartest people in Scream, Sheriff Judy Hicks is a great horror character, but she was much more resourceful in Scream 4. She's a doting and loving mother to Wes and a long-time Woodsboro resident, so her death is pretty impactful.

Ghostface calls Judy while she's driving to taunt her and threaten to kill her son. This threat causes her to fiercely speed back home, only to find that Ghostface was simply baiting her. When she arrived at her house, the masked killer ambushed her. Ghostface jumps out of her home and stabs her to death, killing the face of law and order in Woodsboro and making residents feel even more unsafe.

5 Wes Hicks Was Stabbed In The Neck

When Sheriff Hicks races home to save Wes from Ghostface's impending danger, he is unaware of what could happen. Instead, he is getting ready to take a shower. This is a fun nod to classic horror movie shower kills, like the iconic scene in Psycho.

In a classic Scream fake-out, Wes doesn't get killed in the shower. The way this scene is set up is just a ruse to make Judy and fans more nervous. The audience expects a jump scare and is treated to a tense scene full of mirrors, loud closing doors, and opening cabinets as Wes sets the table for dinner. The teen eventually notices that the front door is slightly open, and when he opens it fully, he sees his dead mom. Soon after, Wes is stabbed, and the gory scene shows the knife going straight through his neck.

4 Liv McKenzie Gets Gunned Down By Ghostface

Liv McKenzie in Scream 5

2022's Scream introduced new victims and survivors into the franchise. Although Liv wasn't a fleshed-out character, her death was one of the most memorable parts of Scream. Her murder comes seemingly out of nowhere in the climax of the film when the surviving characters all gather together at Stu Macher's house.

Many Scream installments include nods to previous entries, and the original movie's climax took place in Stu Macher's house. To rid the audience of any doubt over who the killer might be, Amber pulls out a gun and shoots Liv in front of everyone, setting the stage for an epic battle. This was an exciting death, as it was Ghostface's first kill without their mask and costume.

3 Sam Stabbed Richie Kirsch And Shot Him

Richie in Scream

Richie is a great liar, but Dewey immediately clocked him as the killer. Any smart audience member or Scream fan would know to trust Dewey. Richie's girlfriend, Sam, is revealed to be the biological child of Billy Loomis, one part of the original Ghostface killer.

Richie was smart to try to use Sam's heritage against her, but it eventually backfired. In one of the most brutal scenes in Scream, Sam stabbed him relentlessly. She tapped into her killer roots and stabbed Richie multiple times before cutting his throat. To confirm his demise, she then shot him in the head. It was a savage death.

2 Amber Freeman's Death Was A Long Sequence

Mikey Madison is great at playing an antagonist, and her performance helped solidify Amber as one of the best Ghostface killers. She even had iconic lines, like "Welcome to Act 3" and her rant about toxic fandoms. Additionally, Amber's death is the most brutal murder the Scream series has seen in a while.

Amber had a four-part demise, and she deserved nothing less. She is first beaten bloody with Tara's crutch. Then, she gets shot by Gale Weathers a few times. Next, Sidney throws a glass bottle of hand sanitizer at her. Amber falls back on the stove, accidentally lights it, and goes up in flames because she is covered in alcohol. Mikey Madison also burns to death in Once Upon a Time In Hollywood, so she seems to have found her niche.

1 Dewey Riley's Death Broke Everyone's Hearts

The Scream franchise follows a specific formula, so in 2022's installment, audiences knew that a legacy character had to die. That character was, sadly, the beloved Dewey Riley. He dies halfway through the movie in a heartbreaking scene.

Dewey's death couldn't be simple, which is a blessing and a curse. While it's hard to watch Dewey be viciously stabbed, most fans agree that he deserves an epic death rather than a simple gunshot. Ghostface shows Dewey no mercy as they plunge the knife deeper into his body, gutting him as blood spews from his mouth. It was a gory way to go, and Dewey will certainly be missed in Scream 6.
