Gabriel Hardman and Corinna Bechko's Green Lantern: Earth One gave us a book with plenty of unique changes from traditional Green Lantern lore. Now Volume 2 of the book is out and the changes haven't stopped, with one of the biggest being the introduction of a heroic yellow ring clad John Stewart.

While this may be the first time we are seeing John take up a yellow ring, it's far from the first time a DC hero has done so. Despite one of the yellow ring's requirements being that its wearer can inflict great fear, plenty of DC heroes have worn a yellow ring over the years. Let's break down who they are.

John Stewart

Yellow Lantern Earth One John Stewart

Up first, we have the newest hero to wear a yellow ring, John Stewart of Green Lantern: Earth One continuity. In this universe, the Yellow Lanterns are made up of inhabitants of the planet Qward, located in a parallel dimension where the Guardians fled to escape the Manhunters long ago.

While they seem peaceful, Hal Jordan can't shake the weird feeling he gets from them. However, the earthling John Stewart comes into possession of a yellow ring and aids Jordan in his search to discover the being who destroyed the original Green Lantern Corps.

Guy Gardner

Guy Gardner

Guy Gardner's time with a Yellow Ring did not see him joining the Sinestro Corps typically associated with the ring, though the ring he used did belong to Sinestro himself. The ring was created for Sinestro in the anti-matter universe by the Weaponers of Qward. It draws its energy from conflict with the Green Lanterns.

Gardner came into possession of the ring after he was banished from the Green Lantern Corps and found Sinestro's frozen corpse wielding the ring. He wore it during the Death of Superman storyline and eventually used it to power a golden exo-suit as its powers began to wane. Gardner eventually lost his ring in a fight with Parallax Hal Jordan who destroyed it.

Batman

Batman's initial interaction with a yellow ring came during the Sinestro Corps War when a yellow ring tried to indoctrinate him. Batman was able to pull the ring off after he was chosen and the ring would fly away, but it would not be the last time he would wear a yellow ring.

During the Forever Evil event, Batman revealed he had been hiding a yellow ring and donned it to battle an alternate universe's evil version of the Justice League, the Crime Syndicate, and their version of Green Lantern known as Power Ring.

Hal Jordan

The most famous Green Lantern has also been a Yellow Lantern on a few occasions. Like Batman, Hal Jordan donned a few yellow rings in the Sinestro Corps War. He would once again wear a yellow ring during the War of the Green Lanterns when he was forced to remove his green ring to avoid being possessed once again by Parallax, he chose Sinestro's ring due to his familiarity with it.

The Injustice comics also saw Hal join the Sinestro corps when he is stripped of his green ring by the Guardians. He would later return to wearing a Green ring after paying for his previous actions.

Superman

Clark Kent donned a yellow power ring in Keith Champagne, Patrick Gleason, Peter J. Tomasi, Doug Mahnke, and Jaime Mendoza's Superman #30 when the fear entity Parallax possessed the last son of Krypton. This happens as Sinestro is attempting to chase down the entity to use it as a power source. However, Parallax eventually retreats from Superman after Sinestro gains the upper hand on Yellow Lantern Superman.

Like Hal Jordan, Superman also becomes a Yellow Lantern in the Injustice comics, this happens when Sinestro comes to Earth and enlists him in a battle against the Green Lantern Corps. He relinquished the ring when Wonder Woman awoke from her coma and convinced him to return to being a regular Superman.

Brainiac (Vril Dox)

Vril Dox II was selected as a member of the Sinestro Corps when another member was killed by a Black Lantern. However, Vril Dox and his yellow ring were still no match for the Black Lantern, forcing him to teleport away from the fight. He would later be discharged when he refused to adhere to Sinestro's mandates for the corps.

While many have wielded the ring, most have returned to their heroic ways.
