A huge amount of the backstory in Elden Ring follows the demigods, the children of Marika, Godfrey, and Radagon. A complex tree of siblings, step-siblings, and half-siblings, the game's powerful demigods are some of the most prominent figures still active in the Lands Between, fighting the vicious civil wars of the Shattering between them.

Elden Ring is ambiguous about the nature of its many types of divinity. Many beings in Elden Ring's cosmology clearly embody some aspect of divinity while not being a god in their own right. However, Marika's descendants in her various guises all qualify and are the only beings outright called demigods.

Updated March 4, 2024 by Jenny Melzer: Elden Ring's demigods are its central characters and yet some of its most mysterious. Due to FromSoft's deliberately opaque storytelling, fans are left to find their own answers and draw their own conclusions. This article has been updated to give even more information about all Elden Ring demigods, as well as to reflect CBR's most recent standards in Formatting.

Elden Ring: Shadow of the Erdtree is Set in a "Brand-New Land"
Elden Ring: Shadow of the Erdtree director, Hidetaka Miyazaki, explains the upcoming DLC's new story and setting.

The Night of the Black Knives is the event most directly responsible for the sorry state of Elden Ring's world. Godwyn the Golden is the foremost casualty of the Night of the Black Knives, as the Black Knife assassins targeted him directly. Prior to his spiritual death, Godwyn was known as the greatest of Elden Ring's demigods.

Among his notable feats, Godwyn could subdue and befriend the dragons, a feat nobody else could manage. However, his death ended any active involvement he could have in Elden Ring's storyline. His decaying body is buried at the Edtree's base, spreading blight throughout Elden Ring's Lands Between and leading to the rise of Those Who Live in Death.

The Church of Elleh Site of Grace

Aliases

Lunar Princess Ranni, Lady Ranni, Renna

Ranni the Witch is the only daughter of Radagon of the Golden Order and his first wife Rennala, Queen of the Full Moon. She's also one of the most significant demigods in Elden Ring, with an entire storyline and ending dedicated to her. Prior to the game, she was the Lunar Princess Ranni, a key member of Marika's dynasty and an Empyrean – one of the three demigods marked as a potential successor to Marika.

Ranni's desire to choose her own destiny leads her to become an active plotter in the Night of the Black Knives. She plotted with Marika and Rykard to have Godwyn killed. Ranni uses this plot to slay her spirit but leave her body alive, leading to her doll form in Elden Ring. From there, she works to become a god with her own order in Elden Ring's Age of Stars ending.

Two of Marika and Godfrey's three demigod children in Elden Ring are Omens, born bearing a curse that the Golden Order considers unacceptable. As such, Mohg and his brother, Morgott, are shunned by their siblings. It's implied that nobody except their father holds any love for them whatsoever. Whereas Morgott responded with fervent loyalty, Mohg chose to forge his own path.

Mohg is the only one of Elden Ring's demigods dedicated to the Outer God known as the Formless Mother. He lives in his Mohgwyn Palace beneath the Lands Between with the captive corpse of his half-brother Miquella. Mohg's plan throughout Elden Ring is to resurrect Miquella as a god and rule as his consort, both dedicated to the Formless Mother.

Rykard is another of Radagon and Rennala's children. In his backstory, he's a loyal praetor of the Golden Order involved in rooting out its enemies. However, his circumstances have changed by Elden Ring's present day. Rykard's hunger for power drives him to let the God-Devouring Serpent consume him, leading to his current hybrid state as Rykard, Lord of Blasphemy.

Rykard's allegiances have been more fluid than most other Elden Ring demigods. He goes from supporting the Golden Order to aiding Ranni in the Night of the Black Knives. From there, he becomes one of Morgott's worst enemies in the Shattering. In the present day, Rykard and his Volcano Manor seek to overthrow the Golden Order and consume everything.

5 Miquella Was Born Afflicted and Cursed to Forever Remain In a Child's Body

Status

Deceased

Twin

Malenia

Aliases

The Unalloyed, Lord Miquella

Spells

Triple Rings of Light, Radagon's Rings of Light, Discus of Light

Marika and Radagon's union in Elden Ring only produced two children: the twins Miquella and Malenia. Both of these are unique among all Elden Ring demigods. Malenia is born infected with Scarlet Rot, whilst Miquella is frozen in the form of a young child. Despite this, both are Empyreans, designated as potential future gods. Miquella's visions of his own order center around the Haligtree, a structure home to all those cast out by the Golden Order.

Divinity isn't Miquella's destiny, however. He's long dead by the time of Elden Ring. His half-brother Mohg kidnaps him to the Mohgwyn Palace and slays them. Miquella's corpse appears to still be growing far underneath the Lands Between in line with Mohg's plans to resurrect him as one of Elden Ring's gods.

Golden Lineage

Aliases

Godrick the Golden, Lord Godrick

Loot

Remembrance of the Blashpemous, Rykard's Great Rune

Godrick the Grafted is the Lord of Limgrave and the first demigod players are likely to fight in Elden Ring. He's also one of the Shattering's primary combatants. Despite this, he's looked down upon by everybody, including people far below the status of demigod. In part, this is due to his diluted heritage. Godrick is a descendant of Godwyn instead of Marika's child, and is thus weaker.

Godrick the Grafted is also infamous in-universe as the weakest of all Elden Ring demigods. He has lost every battle of note in the Shattering, being humiliated in successive defeats by Morgott and Malenia. He relies on mercenaries to bolster his forces and grafts the limbs of other creatures to himself to increase his power.

3 Morgott, the Omen King, Unlike His Twin Mohg, Is Not an Optional Boss

Morgott the Omen King is Marika and Godfrey's other Omen child. He has spent much of his life hidden and out of sight. His childhood is spent trapped in the Subterranean Shunning-Grounds below Lenydell, the Royal Capital. Even when he becomes king of Leyndell during Elden Ring's Shattering, he hides his face and becomes known as the Veiled Monarch.

Despite his abuse at the hands of the Golden Order, Morgott is the only Elden Ring demigod to remain fully loyal. He denounces his siblings as traitors and fights a defense war to keep Leyndell safe. He fights the Tarnished in his public guise as Margit, the Fell Omen, before challenging them under his own name.

Remembrance of the Rot Goddess, Malenia's Great Rune

Malenia is Elden Ring's most notorious boss, renowned as one of the finest warriors in the Lands Between. She is one of the twin children of Marika and Radagon, afflicted from birth with the Scarlet Rot. Malenia's loss of her eyes and three of her limbs to the condition hasn't stopped her from being one of the Shattering's most lethal combatants, however.

Malenia's allegiances are unique of all Elden Ring demigods. She doesn't fight for her own glory or the Golden Order. Instead, she's a loyal supporter of her brother Miquella. Malenia spends much of the Shattering within the Haligtree, either aiding Miquella or recuperating. However, she's also responsible for the state of Caelid. Malenia's most infamous act in Elden Ring's story is unleashing the Scarlet Rot during her titanic duel with Radahn, devastating an entire region.

General Radahn is one of the most respected demigods in Elden Ring. He's renowned as one of the Lands Between's finest soldiers and generals, ruling his own fief of Caelid. He's also a scholar and a sorcerer, versed enough in gravity magic to combat the stars. However, Radahn has fallen far by the time of Elden Ring.

Radahn fights for his own glory in the Shattering, even attacking Leyndell to elevate himself over Morgott. He duels Malenia when her forces invade Caelid, proving one of the few people in Elden Ring who can match her. However, her Scarlet Rot ravages his body and mind. By Elden Ring's present day, he's a savage beast barely aware of his surroundings. His troops organize the Festival of Radahn to give him a glorious death, with the Tarnished invited to participate.
